Daniel B (kr) wrote: An absurdist comedy, that's not quite absurd enough.

Andrew G (ag) wrote: Despite Lee Majors' excellent position in the role of Max Tennyson, the film falls flat with mediocre acting and special effects, and a script that seems like it was written by a child in school.

Jack S (fr) wrote: Sayles is so smart, and researches his material so well, that he tends to cram too many ideas into his terrific movies. This time he goes a different way, with great results. Like the blues music that is the backbone of this film, Sayles riffs on a simple, familiar story (honest man losing his property to evil people; only a "Big Night" can save things). And like the great blues artists, Sayles makes the story his own. Danny Glover turns in a wonderful performance. The movie looks beautiful. There's a dash of mysticism. And music seeps through it all.

Michael K (fr) wrote: Another masterful martial arts epic from Sammo Hung, marred only by some excessive broad humour which doesn't always gel as well as it should.

Hannah H (us) wrote: It dragged on and suffers from many flaws. However I can relate, which is enough for me to appreciate it.

Seraphic W (it) wrote: As bad an actress as Plaza is and as cheerfully try-hard this flick turned out to be, I'd still happily watch Duplass doing his taxes. On that basis, I found this movie underwhelming but still providing enough points for my attention to cling onto -- hence the most favorable rating. That aside... I mean... it's only just another formulaic, quirky rom-com. Cute at times, cringeworthy at others, characters a little flat, narrative contextually askew in order to fit the love-story. Nothing that hasn't been done before or won't be done again -- a 'take it or leave it' effort.

Bahman B (ca) wrote: The cartoon scenes were so off, but the subject was touching.

Jason P (br) wrote: Tense and gritty film with flashes of humour. excellent performances all round.
