Tarkan and the Blood of the Vikings

Tarkan Versus the Vikings, Turkey’s answer to the Italian sword and sandal films, is more fun than the proverbial barrel of monkeys and just as crazed. Everything in this movie is energetic, outsized, colorful and wacky, from Tarkan’s mighty moustache to the Vikings’ red and blue fuzzy underoos. Tarkan doesn’t just walk around, like Hercules - he runs, he leaps, he literally bounces from place to place. The gigantic melees capture the frenetic flavor of old Errol Flynn movies, but up the ante of sex and violence to please ‘70s moviegoers. It’s like Conan the Barbarian done on $10,000 and amphetamines. - CSB

Mic R (it) wrote: Although this documentary itself has an angle, it does demonstrate more publicly that real news is what somebody somewhere doesn't want you to know and, everything else, really is advertising. In conjunction with reading Jack Trout and David Ogilvy it's clear that celebrity endorsements really do work. Forewarned is forearmed and, perhaps, a way to make a tidy profit via unscrupulous means whilst the rest of the population remain blissfully ignorant. But, then there are wheels within wheels ...

Paul N (au) wrote: Well, that was a bit silly. A solid addition to the zombie genre. A Rodriguez vehicle through and through (I did like in the credits he was even credited as 'the chef' to himself! along with writer, director, producer, DP, musical director, songwriter etc. etc.), it turned really pleasantly gory in the last 30 mins. The grindhouse scratchy film element did slightly jar with the generally high production values behind it, and the clearly large budget they had to spend.

Tracey W (us) wrote: Thumbs down to the deathsentence- esp when ppl have mental illness. The stories about her childhood are really very sad. Traumatic.

Rory O (it) wrote: Beautiful little character study for a pair of great actresses (and a fine supporting cast). Highly recommended.

Randy P (au) wrote: The suspense and thrills last for about 10 minutes and then it all spirals into a movie that you wish would be over sooner.

Eric H (br) wrote: This movie helped my kids learn to have empathy for the world around us. It brings up points about irresponsible practices toward the environment and other living things in a way children can understand. The parallel villains of Pollution and Greed personified in Hexxus, as well as in the humans harvesting the rainforest, is an insightful twist to this animated feature. The personalities of the two lead characters are overshadowed by the vastness of the story, but I can't help but wonder if that is intentional. Don't we all feel ordinary? Don't we all think there is nothing we can do about it? Tim Curry is one of the best villain voices EVER, this is no exception to his work. Robin Williams has used his skills to tell many noble stories, and this is another. I love this movie.

Nick Z (br) wrote: the funniest film. memorable as well. touches the heart and pulls you into the life of an innocent boy in a very hard time in his life. great take on the play.

Maxwell H (it) wrote: I saw the film when it opened and later rented it on VHS (not available on DVD yet.) A beautiful and heart wrenching film. Ian Holm as "Lewis Carroll" was sadly overlooked by the Oscars that year. The Muppet/Puppet scenes may strike modern audiences as a bit odd, but they add more charm and realism than CG could. One not to miss if/when it is ever shown. Send requests in to TCM.

Andrey B (kr) wrote: Perfect perfomances of De Niro and Meryl Streep, good movie. I don't want to think about its flaws. These two legends make this movie so emotionally correct and richly full. Pure pleasure to watch them.

Morris N (ag) wrote: Taut, well acted Cold War type political thriller in which the battlefield is the world championship chess match between a Soviet and a Soviet defector. Won the Best Foreign Language Oscar. Excellent movie.

Bill M (us) wrote: One of the best war moves ever made and one that still stands up after fifty years. Plenty of heroes, but no silly villans.

Mr Movie R (fr) wrote: Very fun and interesting. A little long but definitely worth watching.
