Manny C (fr) wrote: Billy Crudup delivers a knockout performance as the 'most beautiful woman on the London stage' in Stage Beauty. In seventeenth century England, women were forbidden from acting. so men played all of the female roles. Ned Kynaston is the toast of the stage, bringing down the house every night with his dying Desdemona. Ned's dresser, Margaret Hughes (luminous Claire Danes) is fascinated by him and in love with him, that is until she sees him getting it on with the Duke of Buckingham (Ben Chaplin). But then King Charles II (a deliciously funny Rupert Everett) decrees that women can appear on the stage, Margaret becomes a star and Ned must learn to play men. Stage Beauty, adapted from a play by Jeffrey Hatcher, is all kinds of bawdy fun, thanks to its stars and director Richard Eyre (Iris). Crudup leaves the best impression, and is amazingly moving when he does an audition and fights to suppress his feminine side. Things get explosive when Margaret and Ned co-star in Othello. It's a wonderful little film.

KJ P (ca) wrote: This film takes you on a down-to-earth roller coaster ride as you watch to learn what the true meaning of love is. As Angela (a practising night club stripper) is unsure of her love for her current boyfriend (Emile), she believes the only way to finalize her love is to have a child with him. He refuses and believes that they have all the time in the world. As she results to talking to Emile's best friend, she is now in the middle of a split decision between whether or not to love him. This film truly represents what a romance film needs to be. The title suits the film picture perfectly, the story is basic, yet beautifully told, the editing is unique, the comedy/tragedy shakespeare references are amazing and wonderfully interpreted, but the real thing that this has to make it such a classic, it that it has random moments of musical numbers that will make any audience member smile. This film feels like the best play ever made, placed on screen! "Une Femme Est Une Femme" is a masterpiece!

Caesar B (gb) wrote: David Koepp is an amazing writer. He's penned some truly great film including Carlitos Way, Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds. His directorial endeavors however, aren't as memorable, although Premium Rush has some oomph to it. With Secret Window, based on a Stephen King novella Koepp explores the thriller genre. The set-up: a depressed writer is accused of plagiarism by a menacing figure, who begins stalking him. Depp and Turturro are both fine, but the melancholy pace takes it's toll on the viewer. Not great but good.
