Teddy Bear

Teddy Bear

The main character, nicknamed "Teddy Bear" by his friends and acquaintances, is a manager of a sports club in Poland. One day he is detained at the border just as his sport team is off to a tournament. It appears that somebody has torn out a few pages from his passport. It occurs to him that perhaps his ex-wife has done it in order to get her hands on their joint account in a London bank. Therefore, he has to get to London as soon as possible in order to transfer the money to a different bank. The solution is taking part in a movie, made by his friend. The script requires a double role, thus the search for another actor is announced. The double has to apply for the passport, and that is solved through a girlfriend who agrees to play the dope's new fiancée. At the engagement party he is slipped a drug, and Teddy Bear runs off to the airport with the false passport. On the plane, however, he meets his ex-wife...

Barry T (us) wrote: A little bit old fashioned. A wasted role for all 3 stars. Walberg plays dumb, Crowe OTT and Zeta Jones bland. A corrupt mayor is a silly thriller yawn

Richard C (mx) wrote: Odd romance-relationship film mostly, which juggles several relationships and people's plights in an untampered manner. You see people emotionally devastated and trying to combat depression with alcohol. Since it's so variated, it's interesting, and you're going to try to see at what small point the stories coincide. I think it's the first film I've seen where a guy walks up from what seemed to be unsimulated sex, and goes within the camera's viewing distance with a full-blown hard on, and then walks back in bed to copulate some more. Very little dialogue for a two-hour film, and the drama is believable, one because it's well written, two because the actors can act. It lacked a climax, and instead continued with its series of unrelated stories, one part violently criticizing romcoms, but overall it retains its message of isolation and incompleteness in human monogamies, emotional or romantic.

MF J (es) wrote: Terrible adaptation of the Anne Rice's novel this awful film is badly directed, terribly acted and poorly scripted. What a waste of time to watch something so stupid and boring.

Adrian B (au) wrote: Barbara Stanwyck pulls off a fine performance in this drama in which she fights for the love of daughter from soon-to-be ex-husband. Unlike other films from this decade and I suppose the 1940's, this one stands out because it is engaging and moves at a relatively quick pace. In addition, the plot is clear and very coherent and there is a relatively strong emotional intensity given by the very good performances from Stanwyck and Anne Shirley. Stanwyck certainly has an unusual and vastly different performance from here ones in "Double Indemnity" and "The Lady Eve." Very good film and the DVD version is so clear.

Ben J (gb) wrote: Certainly no Godfather or Scarface, but entertaining enough if you loved those films as I did. The dull score, a somewhat by-the-numbers Washington / weedy performance from Crowe, and lack of original scenes let down what should have been a sure fire hit, despite the advantage of being based on true, remarkable, events. The take-away that left me open mouthed - allegedly 75% of the New York drugs task force were found guilty of corruption, including drug trafficking. More dirt than Glastonbury :O

Art S (es) wrote: Dan Curtis mostly directed low budget horror movies for TV (and famously the Dark Shadows movies and TV series), but this putative haunted house thriller really goes nowhere. Instead, Karen Black and Oliver Reed try to demonstrate who can act most crazy (and Bette Davis joins in for good measure). Presumably the actors are somehow possessed by the house which fixes itself and drapes itself in flowers, presumably after accepting an "offering". But their struggles are rather tiresome and boring and the house doesn't actually do anything scary. IMdB says that this is "one of Stephen King's favorite horror films" - probably because he doesn't like The Shining. But methinks that quote must be bollocks. There is nothing to see here. Maybe I need to check out some of those paranormal activity sequels.
