The Adventures of Sebastian Cole
In June, 1983, in Dutchess County, New York, Sebastian Cole joins his mother, step-father, and sister for dinner. Hank, Sebastian's step-father, drops a bomb: he announces he's changing sexes. Sebastian's sister splits immediately for California, and his mother takes him back to England. Jump ahead eight months, Sebastian is back in New York, knocking on Hank's door. Hank (now Henrietta, although all the surgeries aren't complete) takes Sebastian in and is his rock over the next few months of high school. Sebastian's "adventures" are mostly self-destructive.

His country with a 3,000 year history is counting the days until it's wiped off the map by the rising ocean. At the United Nations lectern, he said he's left with no choice but to speak even if no one is really listening. Last month the dictator's forces removed him from power. So he's full circle back to where he began. Rallying his countrymen to declare their civil rights, and hoping to turn the tide in the Maldives and for the planet.

(gb) wrote: Well, let's see, it was not the best documentary ever, it was kinda slow (I was dozing off for a a moment), and well there was not any new insight on the topic what is God? I already knew every religion wants to imposse their god as the only "real and true" one, that's why I don't have a religion, I do believe in God but I'm not attached to any religion. Anyway, the film had it's good things, very beautiful locations, lots of known artists, a positive message saying "fighting over religion is pretty dumb" and Ringo saying God is love, which at the end, is all we want right?

From Ayn's birth in Russia (tumultuous times early last C.), schooling, interest in cinema and heroism, her move to America, start in Hollywood, atheism, courtship, marriage, TV interviews, affairs (which her husband allowed), books, uncomfortableness with her accent, fights with producers, etc. Great for anyone wanting to know the origin and fruition of Objectivist philosophy. She is one of the who I am sad I will never be able to be in her company and enjoy an intellectual conversation. (Though I do have say her views on Israel are bass-ackwards, obviously tainted by her ethnic lineage.)

(jp) wrote: In 1922, Murnau realized a masterpiece of horror cinema (the first based on Bram Stoker's Dracula) and after 57 years (in 1979) Herzog makes a remake that does not try to imitate the original, but it does something more. What Herzog has done it is something wonderful, scary, beautiful, terrifying and poetic. A story of love, blood, death and loneliness, with a masterful Klaus Kinski, who plays a penned Dracula in his castle and in its melancholy, a melancholy due to his loneliness. Isabelle Adjani is a wonderful, beautiful, strong, wise and loving Lucy Harker, who must fight to save his love from the clutches of Dracula. Melancholic and poetic final. One of the few cases in which the remake is wonderful as the original.
(it) wrote: If the special effects and the suspense are there, the rhythm of the movie is just too slow. Many of those scenes and characters should have been cut off entirely . Now i do understand why it was groudbreaking in 1977 and why it is considered a classic , i just felt like the entire movie should have been shorter
(es) wrote: Standard issue 60's WWII flick with some shocking continuity errors, but definately worth a watch. Don't expect much with regards to special effects and you won't be upset.
(mx) wrote: Terrible. Paper-thin plot and stilted acting. Like a porno without the sex.
(ca) wrote: Fun, stylish crime comedy. True, I will admit it is a bit crowded and the plot is a lot to take in on the first viewing but with repeat viewings it becomes a great watch. Great dialogue, funny twists and turns, and overall a blast of a British crime comedy. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is "Great!"
