Ingela A (kr) wrote: Luca Guadagnino's Lo Sono L'amore is a sensual montage of all things Italian: of art, architecture, fashion, food and family. Tilda Swinton mesmerizes in a loveless marriage, orphaned in to a playground of wealth - and an affair. The love scene is so skillfully shot that juxtaposed opaques of insects grazing over flowers are more sensual than its actual nude protagonists. John Adams' opera scores are the aural chiaroscuro interweaving elements of romance and angst, with its minimalist pulsations driving us towards the film's final conclusion with devastating effect. Tilda Swinton and Flavio Parenti lure us in to their world of art, food and forbidden love with such casual, matter-of-fact grace that we come to accept the syndrome of their private existence as justice; while regretting the orders of accepted society, which understands love only through the labels and titles of social position - not through love in its purist form. Guadagnino's skill in creating a palate of cultural images makes his film screen the ideal canvas upon which to paint his story. Lo Sono L'amore is an unforgettable, deeply moving film experience.
