Kris W (es) wrote: "Power built an empire. Passion destroyed it." After his mistress is beaten a Mafia leader (Anthony Quinn) goes after the man responsible (Robert Forster) with a bloody vengeance. Soon after the hunt begins, a gang war ensues. A Godfather knock off, with a pretty good cast. Besides Quinn and Forster, it also features Frederic Forrest (Apocolypse Now), Victor Argo (King of New York), Sid Haig (Devils Rejects), Vic Tayback (Alice), and not 1 but 2 Godfather cast members; Abe Vigoda (Tessio) and Al Lettieri (The "Turk"). Quincy Jones does the score. The fiilms not bad, but if you're going to compare it to The Godfather, it just doesn't compare.

Tom B (mx) wrote: Randolph Scott reminds me of my grandfather and how I would have liked him to be. This man is The American Eagle personified, in all it's best qualities. The story is short, but packed. Like all great westerns, it's a story that works today, if only by showing us consideration in the performance of an unpretentious gentleman. And Lee Marvin is the perfect foil. But it's Gail Russell who gives the film a warm glow. She's real, and it's beautiful performance to see.

LA L (ca) wrote: More of a standard, by-the-book biopic than the Broadway musical than it was based upon, therefore losing some of its heart. However, it's a mostly well-crafted and enjoyable film, nonetheless.
