Emily R (nl) wrote: The trailer made this movie look pretty good, and I love Freddie Highmore. However, I felt like the plot was very boring and lacked that something special that could've made it a lot better. Emma Roberts was very unbelievable and the other actors gave pretty dull performances too. I wouldn't really recommend this to many others just because of the slow plot.

Mattias E (ag) wrote: In 2006 the annual Wai Ka Fai directed lunar new year comedy goes for speed rather than substance, a forceful attempt at overpowering it's audience. Shopaholics sadly soon wears you out with it's fast pace and manages to engage only in it's final reel, when Wai allows Cecilia Cheung and Lau Ching Wan to bring some long lost affection into this romcom madness. Wai's screenplay includes a hint at social satire attacking the materialism and consumerism in today's China, and the various displays of neurotic behaviour might be mildly amusing at times, but never actually funny.

Mikael K (ru) wrote: The film captures the feel of Arthur Miller's novel very well, by creating a nightmarish, unreal universe that gets more and more twisted as the character is buried deeper into the world of prejudice. Exposes racial prejudice in a somewhat obvious but accurate way as a myth based, unrealistic schema.

Christopher B (kr) wrote: Not too surprising, this has the period's obligatory anti-commie references. Otherwise better than expected, due in part to the excellent performance by Ritter as well as solid editing and camera work.

Mark C (kr) wrote: First off, I hate it when they characters are supposed to be speaking in a foreign language and they just speak English with an attempt at that country(TM)s accent. This movie doesn(TM)t even try that, though its funny to hear a bunch of people with a British accent. Truly an 80(TM)s flick right down to the James Horner score (sound familiar? It should, he did Commando and 48 hrs. which had a very similar score the guy loves steel drums). There wasn(TM)t too much of a twist at the end, but it was good cold war era stuff. Just wondering why William Hurt didn(TM)t like to pull out his gun too much. Didn(TM)t even know if he carried one half way through the flick!
