(br) wrote: Badly produced and acted neo noir has an amazing cast (which goes beyond all the marquee names you see just in the cast list on here) but a story that goes nowhere. The acting is slow, the characters cartoonish and the storytelling virtually clueless as to what to do. Richard Pryor (who cameos), Billy Idol, Burt Reynolds, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan and Rob Reiner make up the rest of the cast.

It's a pretty fun movie overall, especially in the ridiculously entertaining first act, even if the romantic relationship should have been removed entirely (that sex scene is just awful) and the music sometimes makes it seem like a parody.

Excellent performances (by everyone else except White's kids), but what stands out is the team, and not just because they're good, but because it's unusual for kids to be good. I loved the direction and the writing. They made it light, yet serious. And it wasn't too emotional, or moving, or inspirational. It knew what it was about, and knew that that was enough. If someone chooses to be moved or inspired or emotionally effected by it, that's their choice. But you don't have to. I didn't like White's family. Maria Bello's performance was alright, but I hated the kids. And I hated everything about their storyline. That stuff also made it feel longer. There was one portion in particular that really sucked because it was just postponing the finale of the movie. I wish they would have just taken that crap out. And they easily could have. But that's a very minor complaint in an overall excellent movie!
