The Childhood of Maxim Gorky
The Childhood of Maxim Gorky (Detstvo Gorkovo) was the first of Russian director Mark Donski's trilogy based upon Gorky's memoirs. Alexei Lyarsky plays the young Maxim, who grows up under the czarist regime with his grandparents as guardians. Continually demeaned by his martinet grandfather, Maxim is drawn to his warm-hearted grandmother (Varvara Massalitinova), who instills in him the willingness to pursue his writing muse. Gorky's (and Donski's) deep abiding love for Russia is conveyed through the film's remarkably romanticist landscape shots along the Volga River, which cry out for Technicolor.

(au) wrote: I really liked the storyline of Remember Sunday. It tells a sweet story that needed to be told. Although I felt that a few scenes were unrealistic, I felt that the movie wasn't emotional enough. I wanted more emotion. More sorrow. I felt that I didn't always believe in the characters enough to enjoy this movie more. It was enjoyable whilst watching it, but not more than that.

(us) wrote: This was a silly comedy. It stars Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner who are a married couple but also American agents for the government. They are called back on assignment from maternity leave. They can't be apart from their baby so they take her with them. The story is quite silly but does have some funny moments. I like Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner in this. But overall the story was not that great. Worth a watch only for any Quaid or Turner fans.

(fr) wrote: This is a little odd...it's quite an engaging film but what age range is this pitched at? Toddlers love Pat but this storyline will be over their heads (my son didn't have a clue what was going on) or too scary (his mate was terrified), older kids will have no interest as they've moved on to 'Reservoir Dogs' or whatever. It's also a bit too long, don't get me wrong as the accompanying adult at least you'll be mildly entertained but we're not really the target audience are we. 3 year olds aren't going to get meta pop cultural references and Ronan Keating gags.
