Christopher H (es) wrote: Paul Dano leads this emotionally taut drama as Joby Taylor, an aspiring musician who returns home to find his ex-wife is looking to gain sole custody of his young daughter. "For Ellen" lives and breathes with Dano's high caliber performance, wonderfully portraying a flawed character that the viewer still finds sympathy for. His daughter, played by Shaylena Mandigo, is a future star, with the poise and cold hard stares of an adult actress at the staggering age of six years old. Although most of the film is self-pity and denial on Joby's part, the film picks up when he reveals a secret about his ex-wife that leads to visitation rights for a day between Joby and Ellen. Had the film had more interaction between the two, this could have been a much stronger film, but what we're left with are a few solid scenes and long bit of emotional filler. Why Jon Heder's storyline was in the film, I am uncertain, as it adds very little to the story, if anything. Seeing Paul Dano act, however, is becoming a gift and any excuse to see him break out on the screen is a welcome distraction.

Simon P (us) wrote: Has a solemn atmosphere, a depressingly slow pace and minimal scripting but this is a gripping film, it's also beautifully shot and framed throughout. Writer/director/star Rafi Pitts seems a man of few words. However, his images capture a real sense of isolation and his moody central performance depicts a desperate hopelessness which enhances the tone of the story.

David L (nl) wrote: Interiors is a realistic and relevant look at a troubling family with career, depression and parenting troubles all explored rather well expectedly leading to a heartbreaking ending, but the direction from Allen is surprisingly not great and it may be too depressing and sad. But it largely succeeds thanks in large part to strong characters, greatly explored issues and a number of phenomenal performances.

Donald W (ca) wrote: Sophia Loren won an Academy Award for Best Actress in 1960 for this movie. It was probably more relevant 15 years after the end of World War II than today. Especially for Italians who lived through World War II. It is basically the story of a woman and her daughter trying to survive the last year of World War II in Italy. It is an Italian movie and dubbed into English and it looses something in translation. It's from the point of view of the average Italian citizen so the Germans and the Allies are both depicted as bad guys. The climax to the movie is when the mother and daughter are raped by Moroccan soldiers fighting with the Allies. This was based on a true event that occurred during World War II. The movie takes a long time getting to the rape then ends too quickly afterwords.
