(es) wrote: Beginning in the mid-1980s, a paranoid message about Jupiter, resurrecting the dead and British historian Arnold Toynbee mysteriously appears hundreds of times as tiles embedded within the asphalt of cities throughout America. And even South America. What the message means isn't nearly as fascinating as Justin Duerr's search for its anonymous creator. Beginning with virtually no clues whatsoever, Duerr methodically follows the path to the truth. And it's a path filled with intriguing twists that include nosing around a ham radio hobbyist convention, looking for a car with no floorboard, records of The Larry King show, interviewing a reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer, running up and down a street at 4am shouting "I believe in Toynbee," writing letters to a man who never answers his door, the studying of archived railroad schedules ... and even into evidence of likely plagiarism by a famous playwright. Not a professionally produced film by any means, but the ultimately successful sleuthing is nearly as fascinating as that seen in "The Thin Blue Line." Worthy viewing.

(ca) wrote: (22%)Some decent car based action aside, this is pretty awful. Latifah tries, but the script is lazy, unfunny, and beyond impossible to care enough about to follow even with its very simple (stupid) plot. Fallon with his hugely annoying performance makes the movie almost unwatchable at times, and between the action there's really nothing to see here whatsoever besides the pretty models trying to act.
(gb) wrote: Brilliant. Somewhat fragile group of flat mates, who create deviations to avoid facing the emotional crux of life. Watch the interplay of each individuals fragmented emotional issues within their all-encompassing group relationship. Although somewhat predictable, one cannot help but be so emotionally invested in the characters. The payoff? You??ll walk away feeling so happy. Like you want to applaud. Fills you with a positive feeling of life. I saw this film years ago, and have been looking to buy it ever since. If you have the chance to view it - do!
(kr) wrote: Good soundtrack and above average acting about a group of friends with unique personalities and ambitions torn apart when one of them feels the power of having a gun. Ends with a good lesson.

(au) wrote: The dawning of the Danielle Harris era, this film is very near and dear to me. It was the first Halloween film I saw many years ago. What stuck with me so much was the ending. It's such a bone chilling moment. It has its issues with the story but overall it's great. I may be overly high on it for being sentimental to it, but. I don't care lol. Its one of my favorites!

(fr) wrote: There were no shortage of movies like "My Tutor" in the '80's, and many of them had the same common theme of young men being seduced by older and willing women to placate young men's fantasies everywhere. This one ups the ante some by having the woman in question be a teacher, something that was illegal and immoral at the time of its release but would be tolerated even less today considering how many times that has happened in current events. The film is considerably less vulgar than a lot that came out at the time, even though it does throw in a lengthy and completely unnecessary backstory about Matt Lattanzi and his buddy trying to lose their virginity. That was obviously meant to please fans of these types of comedies. The essential story involved Lattanzi falling for his French tutor, played by Caren Kaye, and despite the tawdry nature of the story it is handled with a surprising amount of sophistication and tact. That makes the whole thing a little easier to swallow. In fact, the film is a lot more a love story than a typical teen sex comedy, but in the same respect it never aspires to be anything more than drive-in fodder. The boy's crazy, sex-starved antics aren't funny, and the one amusing thing in the movie that I did enjoy was the hired help pandering to Lattanzi's mother even though they speak perfect English and are making plans to attend college. That could have been played up more. As it stands, "My Tutor" doesn't rank with the worst of them, but it doesn't rank much higher. It only has its mind in the gutter about half the time.
(au) wrote: Yeah, so this was kind of disturbing. The Snowtown Murders is based on a true story that happened in Australia. It's about a serial killer who kills child abusers and gay men. Not an easy film too watch at all - kind of reminds you that evil does really exist.
