The City of the Dead

A young coed (Nan Barlow) uses her winter vacation to research a paper on witchcraft in New England. Her professor recommends that she spend her time in a small village called Whitewood. He originally cam from that village so he also recommends she stay at the "Raven's Inn," run by a Mrs. Newlis. She gets to the village and notices some weird happenings, but things begin to happen in earnest when she finds herself "marked" for sacrifice by the undead coven of witches. It seems that the innkeeper is actually the undead spirit of Elizabeth Selwyn, and the "guests" at the inn are the other witches who have come to celebrate the sacrifice on Candalmas Eve. As one of them said when Nan walked away, "HE will be PLEASED."

Raul F (ca) wrote: Great Movie I loved it to be honest, I like the first one better though.

Westleigh Q (ag) wrote: Not as heartfelt as the original, but probably more entertaining. Great movie. Bring on #3!

Ron R (au) wrote: It wasn't that great, but it did have a few hilarious one liners. And yes, I did enjoy it more than Taken.

Byron B (gb) wrote: Also available on YouTube, but identified as The Haunted Castle. The original French title is "Le manoir du diable." All of Mlis's films were quite stagy with a static camera shot of a single set. This was made about ten years before the Ulysses short. Going just ten years back from that other short I reviewed on this same day it is amazing how unsophisticated the effects, blocking, set, and performances are.

Erin W (it) wrote: So uninteresting. I liked the NYC scenery and the cameo from Simple Plan (one of my favorite bands), but if you want to see something good with the Olsen girls in it, I suggest "Full House" reruns.

Ugi S (au) wrote: A Disney-ian film with action element, somehow it's surprisingly good.

ermias t (ru) wrote: In this movies, three things that happened were Trevor was trying to pay it forward to change in the world but it is not easy thing to do. Pay it forward does not work with lot of the people in the world but he never gave up on him. I do not like this movie because Trevor always has a problem with his mom because of Arlene was drunk and caused problems with him for no reason. Trevor got the idea of pay it forward from Mr. Simonet and brought Mr. Simonet on a date with Arlene. Trevor does not want to see more problems with mom. She needs to be happy with Mr. Simonet. The themes in the movie are pay it forward, alcohol addiction, and failures. Pay it forward is a theme because Trevor want to influence everybody. He talked about pay it forward often because people need to understand the world. Failure is a theme work because he failed to pay it forward. Alcohol addiction is a theme Arlene was drunk too much she needs to stop getting drunk. Trevor suggested to change the people in the world for better. Ashley H (jp) wrote: Peyton Place is an amazing film. It is about a peaceful New England town that hides its secrets and scandals. Lana Turner and Lee Phillips give incredible performances. The screenplay is well written. Mark Robson did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama and romance. Peyton Place is a must see.

Carlos C (au) wrote: La historia tiene algunos problemas, pero me gusta. The story has some problems, but I like it.

Matt K (kr) wrote: Mom and son get carjacked -- act one. Mom is helpless and pathetic - act two. Act three -- mom escapes and becomes a vigilante badass who hunts down carjacker, finds his bank robbery money and kills him. Somehow even though the police are on the scene right after all this happens, she's able to walk away with the cash (the average bank heist nets less than $10K) and seems to be set for life. There is no apparent police investigation and the whole thing is tied up with a neat bow as her deadbeat ex-husband (aren't they ALL?) is ordered to pay child support. I bet he has a hard time using the washer/dryer too.

darren m (es) wrote: jack nicholson at his best. cuckoos nest is one of those films that paved the way for a lot of great actors and nicholson is no exception. anyone who hasn't seen it, you should!

Tammi B (mx) wrote: A troubled nerd is approached and dominated by a cocky psychopath, only in this version of the familiar story, they are corporate attorneys. It starts out similarly to Bad Influence and Single White Female, and then takes a bizarre twist. Solid suspense, not what you're expecting.

Dustin P (au) wrote: It does a great job of keeping the same charm and humor of the past Peanuts comic strips & holiday specials. A lot of remakes/reboots like this would change the style and have them dancing to a current pop artist's song, which could not only make their hardcore fans groan, but will likely make the scene stale and dated within a few years. The Peanuts Movie resists those types of silly tropes and sticks with what brought them to the dance. It's the usual themes of past Peanuts work with Charlie Brown having problems, Lucy being a little over dramatic, Sally being in love with her "sweet baboo" Linus, etc. They also continued to use the music of Vince Guaraldi, which is terrific since it wouldn't have felt the same without it. If you are a fan, you will love this film. Even if you're not really into the Peanuts, you will probably enjoy it. It's a good movie for kids AND adults (even if you sound like a horn when you talk to kids).
