Lady D (fr) wrote: This down to Earth Northern England story sees a very young Albert Finney showing off young talent in a fairly controversial situation for it's time, with reminders of Alfie (which was a later film), the situation makes for an interesting story and is as gritty as films of that age allow to be.

Stephen H (mx) wrote: The fading luster of life that all performers must face is given attention here. With Charlie Chaplin, it's all the more poignant. Clare Bloom is beautiful, and Buster Keaton pure entertainment. A wonderful film.
