Daniel K (ag) wrote: 2: Hollywood rarely makes films like this now. However, just about every Asian country around seems to produce an ample number of weepy romance films and television shows. They don't get much more sentimental than this. It's entertaining enough, but I think I prefer Asian romantic comedies to Asian romances. I'd say Korea still does it better than China. I'm not quite sure where Japan fits into the mix.

This is not about the courage of the soldiers for turning back after turning their back on these people, though as fictional characters they did act heroically, it's about the struggle and suffering of the African people throughout history, most often at the hands of other Africans. The answer provided is that a small group of people can make a big difference in a number of people's lives, no matter who, if they are determined to do so.

Tyrone H (de) wrote: This movie is another version of Uncle Tom's cabin just in the early 1920's and in Nigeria, Africa. Mister Johnson (Nigerian man) Has NEVER been to England and calls England his home! This is another brain washing of colonialism that spread throughout Africa. Other Africans putting down their own people for the so called establish group that took over Nigeria that claim to help for the better of there country. This is another lesson to be learned by all nations, never put your own people down just because you made it in another country's culture. It can back fire on you.
Maggie A (au) wrote: I had my doubts about the movie, but after about ten minutes I was pretty hooked. The make-up on the aliens was simple and well done; it fitted the general vibe of the movie. The aliens over all were great, their actions and motives completely plausible due to their history, which is clearly stated at the beginning and expanded upon when needed. Alien Nation takes the typical Buddy-cop movie and twists it, giving it a new take and playing on the difference in culture. There is a great scene at the beginning that makes a play off of name translations. The only downside to the movie was the predictable ending, but even that was done well.
