Stuart K (de) wrote: Loosely based on the book by Art Linson, who did the screenplay and produced the film, and directed by Barry Levinson. This is a satirical look at the wheeling-dealing that goes on in Hollywood, it's not as sharp or as biting as what Get Shorty (1995) or even Levinson's own Wag The Dog (1997) was, but it has some good moments with a good cast as well. Hollywood producer Ben (Robert De Niro) has just made a film by maverick British director Jeremy Brunell (Michael Wincott) called Fiercely starring Sean Penn (as himself), which has shocked test audiences with it's bleak ending. Studio executive Lou Tarnow (Catherine Keener) wants to recut the film, and that suggestion leads Jeremy to throw a massive tantrum. Meanwhile, Ben is in pre-production on a film with Bruce Willis (as himself) attached as the lead, however, Willis has grown a massive beard, and when Ben asks Willis to shave it off, Willis answers back with a nasty foul-mouthed response, and on top of that, Ben has discovered his second wife Kelly (Robin Wright Penn) is having an affair with screenwriter Scott Solomon (Stanley Tucci). It's a good film, but it's not as clever as it thinks it is, but it's worth it just to see Willis taking the piss out of himself, but there is a nagging feeling that this should have had a more of an Extras approach with more celebrities sending themselves up. But, it does give De Niro one of his best performances in years, playing Ben with a deadpan beat attitude that works.

Starring actor Robert Taylor as Buck hired to gather and escort many abled women as much as he can gather from one town who have lots of women to another town who hardly have any which used to happen during the gold rush. It's part fiction and it's also part fact focusing the film on what women used to endure upon their very long travel since their obviously was no planes back then as well as train roots- all they had was wagons and horses while majority of them had walked. It neither glamorizes nor does it depicts women as helpless. This is appparently my second viewing after many years, and upon watching this reminded me of another movie I had saw recently called "Meek's Cutoff" made in 2010. 3 out of 4 stars

A Walk Among the Tombstones kept me invested throughout the entire run time of the film, featuring Liam Neeson who is great as usual, very dark tone and a well written script. Despite being kind of clich I still enjoyed this film for what it was going for. Check it out.

Beau H (ru) wrote: Preminger frames the action very well, there are no garbage shots and the set-up and questions as to if Bunny even exists work without devolving into cheap manipulation. That being said, the ending is over the top but it works in how the majority of the film is restrained and loosens just a bit in each sequence leading up to the climax.
