Saying that however, this movie was quite good, vene though I have to admit in a few weeks times I won't even remember it, just that I have watched it. There are soooo many movies with a similar storyline, that this just feels like a re-run of something you have already watched.

(ag) wrote: A bitter drunkard (director Victor Sjstrm) has the bad fortune of dying at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve. He's now fated to drive Death's carriage for the entirety of next year, but first he has to endure a vision of the destructive life he led. The Phantom Carriage owes something to Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, but it also exerted a profound influence of its own on the films of Ingmar Bergman, the German Expressionist directors, and possibly Hollywood movies like The Shining and It's A Wonderful Life. The ample use of then-new techniques like double exposure and super-imposition gives The Phantom Carriage a spectral atmosphere that still works even today. At the end of its running time, I was convinced that this film was one of the most introspective and visually striking examples of the silent era.
