Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. The world will be watching.

The comedy is genius from it's writing, delivery, timing & editing. My favorite Tommy Davidson performance so far. I can't think of any way to make this film more perfect, perhaps by not making a 'Black Dynamite 2'

Wollheim's short story of the same name. Film spawned two sequels without the involvement of Guilermo del Toro. In New York City - two young Entomologists saved the children of the city from roach-borne epidemic through genetic engineering. However, after 3 years since the successful cure, Judas Breed an insect whose enzymes proved deadly to the disease-carrying roaches. This creation has resurfaced in the town, mimicking and with signs of mysterious deaths and missing people - peculiar creatures below the subway of metropolitan, where the colony of roach is bred by male Judas Breed . Signature film from Guilermo del Toro, he applies his usual dark-atmosphere and rains to elevate the thrill and suspense. Guilermo's obsession with insects can be neatly seen from his early work of 'Mimic' - his claustrophobic grip - sense of characterization. Mimic is well-balanced picture that takes perfect use of biological science. The last 25 minutes of the film should grip you in its spell.
Tristan P (gb) wrote: Lucio Fulci attempts to recreate the (black) magic of his supernatural masterpieces like THE BEYOND and CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD but is not successful. A big part of the problem is the fact that, due to an inadequate budget, DEMONIA was shot on tape, giving it a soap-opera look where THE BEYOND and CITY had a smoky, dreamlike atmosphere. The acting is also less than stellar; Brett Halsey is certainly no David Warbeck.

Maybe it's that the translation doesn't do the dialogue justice, but I couldn't muster any interest in the stilted, self-centered analytical musings of any of the characters. Add to this a decision to tell the story in an uncinematic fashion-- static camera, no action, flat colors (at least in my VHS version), and drab settings-- and you get one colossal bore. Oddly, I recognize that this isn't really that far removed from a film by Whit Stillman, whom I love, and whose films are often given the same criticism.

Joe L (gb) wrote: Great movie about a great American Hero. I read the book written by General Custer, My Life on the Plains. It was a incredibly well written and captivating account of his time. It proves he was equally intelligent as he was courageous. Where the movie is fictitious, I am sure Custer was better than advertised. History and movie buffs should not fall prey to critics who systematically seek to water down any of the great leaders in American history.
