Russell S (us) wrote: With the retelling of the origin story, plus the rest of the plot, this was always going to be a lengthy movie. Nevertheless, everything works well and the chemistry between the leads is a definite plus. With good action, romance and well implemented cgi this movie is better than many give it credit for. The 3D feels like a bit of an afterthought though and is largely a waste of time.

Josh H (ru) wrote: It was apparently music biopic day today (Buddy Holly Story earlier), and this one was pretty corny. The corny feel of the movie probably fits Jerry Lee Lewis' persona, but as a film it's just a little hard to enjoy. I gotta say, the relationship between Winona Ryder (the 13-yr old cousin) and Jerry Lee Lewis was every bit as creepy as I thought it would be.

Sean C (ag) wrote: I really liked this movie most of all out the Val Lewton horror movies. I guess a little star power from Boris Karloff is what was needed to make the movie more gripping. This is definitely Val Lewton's bleakest movie, which is probably why I like it best. Tackling the topic of the old superstition vs. the modern age was very nicely done.

Ken S (ru) wrote: Hitchcock is, at this point in his career, truly living up to the "Master of Suspense" monicker. The story starts off simply enough, with the dropping of a letter. Two good friends help a man named Fry pick up his mail...he seems ungrateful. Soon after the airplane factory they work in catches on fire. The two friends and Fry leap to help, Fry hands off a fire extinguisher and one of the friends goes to work...but soon he is consumed by the flames and dies as the factory burns on. When questioned by police the other friend, Barry, tells all he knows...but is soon after chased after by the police when they discover that not only was the fire extinguisher filled with gasoline, but there is no such man named Fry who ever worked there. Barry then goes on a cross country chase avoiding the authorities while trying to track down Fry, and uncovering a plot trying to sabotage the U.S. in the process. It is a fine picture that all leads to a thrilling end on the top of the Statue of Liberty. Classic Hitchcock stuff.

Michael P (it) wrote: This film is ridiculous. After showing us how to have fun with Grindhouse in Planet Terror..this was a mess. The action was suitably gory and we come to expect from Rodriguez.. but the dialogue is painful. For some reason Rodriguez felt the need to get every character to explain the plot as it moves along...just in case we didn't get it.. Some great bits of silliness (swinging through a window on a guy's intestines was hilarious..) but I just couldn't get into this. This is possibly because it takes itself a little to seriously, unfortunately tipping the scale in the wrong direction.
