(br) wrote: Last Weekend is a poignant and moving meditation of family, loss, andchange. Patricia Clarkson leads a magnificent ensemble with her rawperformance. She is a brilliant actress, but gets far too few leadingroles. Here, she is the heart of the film as a mother confronting thepassage of time, and the rest of the cast match her nuanced intensitybrilliantly, with especially great turns by up-and-comers ZacharyBooth, Joseph Cross, and Devon Graye. The film's directors maintain a tone of quiet longing throughout, andthe film is beautiful to look at (Lake Tahoe has never looked better),but look beneath its shimmering surface and you will find acompassionate look at the difficult bonds of family. Stunning.

(jp) wrote: The film was predictable, but the creative violence made up for it. The twist at the end of the movie actually surprised me even though something like it was expected, but there were different options to choose from. Georgia Mackenzie had a brilliant moment at the end of the film. The last shot was amazingly sadistic with blood all over her pretty face. What a scene.
(br) wrote: Eastern Promises tells the story of a Russian mob family and their connection to a woman who dies in childbirth. The film is not a typical mobster movie but instead develops characters and a story that is unique to the genre. Viggo Mortensen has a great performance as a driver of the family who shows remorse to a nurse who is trying to unveil the story behind the dead woman's past. Well acted and well told.
(br) wrote: The movie itself is an absolute classic thanks to a killer performance by Anthony Hopkins, who plays bad guys like no one else. Ryan Gosling himself stood up to plate with Hopkins in this movie, proving that he he is one of the best actors of this generation working today.

(jp) wrote: 75%Saw this on 10/9/15The best of Amistad comes at it's middle when Spielberg so effectively portrays the hardships of the slaves with unbelievable performances, but comparing to other court room dramas, Amistad is a let down and it's final act is so-so full of preachiness. Djimon Hounsou gives a splendid performance and the rest of the cast is also fine. Mathew McConaughey's another court room drama, that too in 1997, also about Racism, A Time to Kill is a better film and gives the actor much space to provide a better performance. I must say that I could not find an extra ordinary film about Racism in the same level in which Schindler's List and Pianist depicted Jew Holocaust.
