Al M (it) wrote: Essentially a rip-off of Garth Ennis's The Crossed comic series (without the visceral brutality) as well as the zombie genre, The Demented is a thoroughly derivative, albeit somewhat enjoyable, piece of survival horror set in Southern Louisiana. An interesting set-up devolves into the stereotypical genre tropes without any real pay-off

Johnny T (ru) wrote: After watching what is now labelled as my favourite film of all time, Mommy, I decided to have a look at Laurence Anyways. At nearly three hours, it's entirely too long, needlessly padded out with an intrusive interview-framing device. The excessive length of "Laurence Anyways" is a major concern. Three hours is a long time for any picture to work out its conflicts, yet this movie doesn't share anything that couldn't be solved in 90 minutes. Laurence Anyways is a formidable display of French Canadian director Xavier Dolan's prodigious talents, but also a case study of a young talent still finding his way to greatness. He'll get there one day, soon, but this film doesn't quite do it. Stylistically, Dolan packs the proceedings with an eclectic and experimental - and occasionally pretentious - audio-visual palette that helps keep things lively even when the film bogs down in narrative excess. It's ambitious, sold with terrific cinematography that's committed to exquisite lighting, but the symbolism is crushing, trying too hard to communicate concepts the viewer already understands. It's an intriguing, oddly satisfying conceit - if only it didn't take so very long to get there. Laurence Anyways has the feel of a personal project that got away from Dolan, full of raw, rough-edged drama in desperate need of discipline and refinement.VERDICT: "In The Zone" - [Mixed Reaction] These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says buy an ex-rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own. If you consider cinema, ask for people's opinion on the film. (Films that are rated 2.5 or 3 stars)
Paul K (ca) wrote: I didn't enjoy this half as much as Populaire, also a French 'retro' movie which we watched recently. It's set in 1977 which is not quite long enough ago to feel quaint to me, and industrial strife is not an ideal milieu for a fluffy wee farce like this. I guess that it would appeal more to someone French, and more au fait with the detail of the period and with small town French political life. Still, Depardieu is on good form and so is Deneuve, so it's far from terrible. 'Terrible' perhaps :)
Aishah S (kr) wrote: Great WW2 flick. I usually love WW2 flicks. Anyways, this flick is between the Americans and the Germans. When talking about Germans in WW2 flicks, Thomas Kretschmann will always be in the casts. Anyways, this flick is intense, thrilling and quite full with action pack scenes, as always.
Aldo M (fr) wrote: If I were 9 yeas old, probably I would like this movie a lot. Unfortunately, I am 56, and this is one of the most stupid things I have seen in years. The story is childish, the fighting ridiculous, there are dozen, if not hundreds, of martial arts movies around with the same kind of silly stuff for kids. This is a mix of martial arts, western, flying super heroes. But if I wanted a western, I would chose Sergio Leone or Sam Peckinpah, if I wanted flying super heroes, I would go to see Superman or Spiderman, and if I wanted martial arts, I can't remember any title, but any Bruce Lee movie is way better than this crap, and none of the very few I have seen, despite stupid, is as stupid as this one.Actually, I was suggested to see this movie mostly because of "the beautiful pictures and the scenery". Here too, there are some nice landscape, but, apart they look a lot as photo-shopped, I have seen nothing that I had not already seen in some National Geographic or BBC documentary (without digital post processing), or Sergio Leone western movie (also, in natural light and no photo shop). The fighting scenes are not just ridiculous and silly to the extreme, they are BORING: the worst being the one on top of trees. It reminded me some beautiful documentary I had seen about Gorillas in Congo: that was beautiful, this is childishly ridiculous.I can not understand how this idiotic thing got so many prizes, end entusiastic criticism, the only answer I can give myself, it was for some political reason.Watch this with your kids, they will appreciate. For me, a total waste of my time.
Adam P (au) wrote: Why does everyone seem to hate this movie? I've loved this movie since I was a kid and I will definitely be introducing this to my kids in the future.. Don't believe the others when they tell you it was bad. Watch it for yourself, you will love it. Rik Mayell was amazing as Fred. One of my favorite scenes is the part where Fred sinks a houseboat. There are so many good quotes from this movie.
Keith M (ru) wrote: This is an OK slasher film that tries to do something different mid way through, but it doesn't really work out as well as either the writer or director (Both involved with the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD) probably hoped it would. Watchable though.
