Ling W (mx) wrote: Don't mistake this movie for an action flick. It is really a historical drama focused on one character during the second world war. It is a rather romanticized interpretation of Yamamoto, but still fairly accurate and thought provoking. For a student of history familiar with the Pacific war during WWII, this movie will be fascinating. For the casual movie historian, the CGI recreation of Midway and Pearl Harbor are brief though well done.

There would be no story however without the boy's mother, a police chief and his cat's late night partner in crime, the neighborhood 'cat' burglar. This leads to a twisting of events and suspense filled finale involving all 4 of them with plenty of animated action from my favorite animators. They include an epilogue which I always enjoy-the little snippet of life AFTER the plot resolution.

John S (kr) wrote: Sukiyaki Western Django is incredibly difficult to digest. It may be because of the muddled plot and confusing story but it's most likely due to the relentlessly annoying stylistic choice of having all the Japanese actors speak in broken English. Not only is it difficult to understand but it's also difficult to take seriously. It can be argued that it's part of the film's charm and parodic elements, but it doesn't sound funny, it just sounds stupid, annoying and unbelievably distracting. On the plus side, the action and style is phenomenal. The color photography is brilliant although slightly distracting at times, and the crisp camera work is amazing. There are loads of brilliant moments of insanity in the many exciting gunfights. And despite the convoluted story, it still does produce some really brilliant twists and turns.Sukiyaki Western Django is one strange film. The genre-bending style may come off as odd and difficult to appreciate for many but the film's crazy action will satisfy almost anyone.

Sam J (jp) wrote: I found this film insulting and extremely blasphemous. Especially in one scene where Christ is torn down then caressed by naked and apparently titillated naked nuns. It really depends on the viewer but I advise Christians that the film may be gratuitously offensive even though it is based on some 'real' events.
