Tsukasa A (br) wrote: It's a comedy of a middle-aged, misanthropic divorce and his new partner who is much younger and innocent. If it is not disgusting, it's probably because of some kind of optimism which underlies the story. Thus the sophisms the misanthropist uses are funny to the contrary. Nothing lasts eternally. Even love has its end but it seems the story affirms such love and life as it is.
Fran D (ca) wrote: Very, very disappointing, a waste of time and money. Not a single moment you feel any attachment to the lead character other than, may be, she deserves to die, a "pleasure" you will, of course, find yourself to be deprived of. The nauseatingly, wigglingly pretentious, godarian hand-held-art-camera-work. Bad judgement on the part of Naomi Watts. Stupidity muffled in "style". CONTEXT: I did not read any reviews or ratings before seeing the movie. I saw the trailer. I liked Naomi Watts from "Mulholland Drive".

For those who haven't yet seen it, then do so ASAP - for those who hv, you know what I'm talking about. It was cute and funny. Okay not over the top like some Hollywood productions, but it had that uniqueness of an "Indy" (independent film) feel to it.I found myself chuckling and L-ing O L at some parts, and feeling the main character's (Luke's) frustration on the whole gender switching ordeal. And of course, I found myself asking the question(s), what would it be like to gender switch on a whim? (although in the film there was more "manipulation" required ;) than just a whim). And then, what gender would I ultimately choose to be?And of course, Kyle Schmid (as Max) and the great "reveal" in the shower scene! <-- That really got me! I literally said out loud (but to myself): "Wow, I didn't see that coming!"And then things just fell into place.I'm so glad I discovered this film (and of course if not having become a fan of Kyle since seeing him in "Blood Ties", I may have NEVER known about it.)Zerophilia is a definite must see!!

Ola G (ru) wrote: Pvt. Joe Armstrong (Michael Dudikoff), an orphaned drifter will little respect for much other than martial arts, finds himself on an American Army base in The Philippines after a judge gives him a choice of enlistment or prison. On one of his first missions driving a convoy, his platoon is attacked by a group of rebels who try to steal the weapons the platoon is transporting and kidnap Patricia (Judie Aronson), the base colonel's daughter, who happens to be along for the ride. Joe rescues Patricia and gets her safely back to the base, but everyone else in the platoon is killed, leading his superiors to conclude that Joe is guilty of cowardice, collaboration or simple incompetence. At the same time Joe becomes the target of revenge of the lead ninja Black Star Ninja (Tadashi Yamashita) as he understands that Joe has the gift of a ninja. Soon enough Joe becomes friends with Cpl. Curtis Jackson (Steve James) and he gets the whole story from Joe: he has amnesia, but he always remembers his ninjutsu moves, and that has helped him with his instinct for survival. Eventually Joes life is at stake and he needs to clear his own name, find out who he really is and face up to Black Star Ninja...What can you say, this is such a classic 80s Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus's Cannon Group B-action movie with everything on the plate and a bit more. "American Ninja" came out during the period in the 80s when the ninja theme was hotter than the hottest and this is no exception in terms of being a pretty low quality actioneer with the focus on an american ninja. Michael Dudikoff is hardly a great actor, nor is the late Steve James, but they do their best at filling their action shoes. Movies like "American Ninja" feels so out of date today, but yet theres a weird sentimental touch to it as it brings me back to my teens and the longing for "cool" american action movies I had back then. But, thank god my taste has changed since then..

Adam M (ag) wrote: Mia Sara plays the most adorable screen queen you've ever seen and for a while puts the lines through some real emotions and rhythms. It's got style for a television movie, and Stuart Gordon chooses the right make-up effects to make the TV audience the most uncomfortable. Anthony Perkins doesn't embarrass himself. The script can get embarrassing though, especially to Jack Coleman.

Crane S (de) wrote: Surprisingly solid entry in a straight-to-video caliber action/sci-fi franchise. The original was done by Roland "Independence Day" Emmerich while this one appears to have been made by David Lynch on anabolic steroids. It's that good. Also Scott Adkins is my new mancrush.
