The Sand Pebbles

Engineer Jake Holman arrives aboard the gunboat U.S.S. San Pablo, assigned to patrol a tributary of the Yangtze in the middle of exploited and revolution-torn 1926 China. His iconoclasm and cynical nature soon clash with the "rice-bowl" system which runs the ship and the uneasy symbiosis between Chinese and foreigner on the river. Hostility towards the gunboat's presence reaches a climax when the boat must crash through a river-boom and rescue missionaries upriver at China Light Mission.

Kevin R (ag) wrote: We?re not the only two out here James Eastman is a vampire who wonders the world seeking revenge. His mother was in a graveyard making out with her fianc when a vampire sprung from the grave, kills her fianc, rapes her, and turns her into a vampire. James will span the globe until he finds the vampire responsible for his mother?s demise. ?We must take that parasite out of you.? John Hayes, director of Garden of the Dead, Baby Rosemary, Mama?s Dirty Girls, Fandango, and Sweet Trash, delivers Vampire from the Grave. The storyline for this picture has potential and reminded me a little of the Blade premise. The action scenes are surprisingly intense and the gore was well presented; however, the film is a bit methodical and boring at times. ?My mother told me that I was not like other children.? I received this movie as a Christmas gift due to my love affair with the horror genre. I was disappointed with the acting in this film and the pace of the picture. There are a few hot chicks in the movie and the kill scenes are splendid. This is only worth watching if nothing else is on television and you enjoy throwback horror movies. ?Death is also very beautiful.? Grade: C-

David C (au) wrote: By 1964 the British empire had collapsed and the crown's former possessions had gained political independence. That year, "Zulu" offered filmgoers a vision of British hardiness in the face of fierce native resistance. The film does not acknowledge the irony of its own existence or offer political commentary on empire; is a shameless exercise in romanticism and war-movie heroics. Yet it is a rich and rewarding film nevertheless. The look and sound of the encircling Zulu army create an atmosphere that filmmakers have often sought to replicate, as Peter Jackson did with his orc hordes in "The Lord of the Rings."

Nic B (fr) wrote: A haunting, brilliantly acted horror/drama.

John O (mx) wrote: Jesus, Bond has so many girls in this film it's scary. The action is drawn out too far, like a Michael Bay film. Which is a problem when it comes to bond.

Tatsuhito K (br) wrote: There are some questionable moments (the flashback sequence being one of them) and the story doesn't really make any sense. But overall, Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a beautifully directed film with some impressive martial arts battles. Some of the character motivations are poorly realized, but I really enjoyed the action sequences.
