Although the backgrounds are obviously early 1990s Yokohama, there is a pleasant temporal ambiguity to the film from the black and white cinematography, to the 70s cop music theme, to the retro cars and locales. Doesn't take itself too seriously but seriously enough to compose each frame and set up some nice shots. On a personal note, I enjoyed the number of foreigners speaking Japanese in the movie. Easier to understand and amusing.

Matthew Samuel M (br) wrote: The plot is certainly fascinating, but the film does suffer from some over acting. The dark twist at the end perhaps could have been handled better. Overall an admirable work of film noir.
John L (ca) wrote: Excellent period production values and execution. If you're expecting another Cronenberg "body horror" or "psychological horror" story, you won't find that in this film. The story isn't a simple one. He takes some liberties with their biographies but I don't believe any of them are that severe. There was considerable controversy regarding Jung and Spielrein, and the extent of their affair. Acting performances are excellent. The run time forces glossing through some of the details about Jung, Freud and Speilrein, and their work, while highlighting the major events. It's more about the relationships between the three than psychoanalysis itself, which would require an entire film series to cover.
