Craig E (ag) wrote: One of the best TV movies I know, and a fine lesson in how a movie about a serial killer can be suspenseful without being gory or violent. Brian Dennehy (I love the guy) plays serial killer John Wayne Gacy with such a powerful presence that you just can't help but be drawn in. Michael Riley plays with perfection the pained detective who develops the approach to investigating Gacy that ultimately leads to his arrest and served as a guidepost to future investigators of murderers. There is an edited down version that is under 2 hours, but ultimately the film suffers because of it. The 3-hour mini-series version really fleshes out the characters and gives the film room to breathe and layer the suspense to a nail-biting climax. This movie won't disappoint.
