These unsuspecting teenagers are unaware that the director and star of the movie made a bloody escape from a psych ward five years earlier and may still be on the loose. As the midnight movie begins, the kids heckle the old black-and-white scenes. But they are jolted when the killer butchers one of their friends...on screen! They soon realize that the killing is not a prank. They are locked inside the theatre and the killer from the movie is after them! Caught between reality and the screen's flickering shadows, are they becoming the unwilling stars of the very horror movie they are watching?

Without going into detail, the story is about how women deal with death, secrets and, in general, familial relationships. Despite not having seen only two by Almodovar, I am aware that most of his films are centered around strong female protagonists, and this is no exception. Penelope Cruz does an excellent job portraying a mother who works hard to provide for her family, and the rest of the cast do great work as well. Also worth mentioning is the excellent production design and vibrant color scheme which make the film really beautiful to look at. There's also a great song which shares its title with (and predates) the film. My only complaints have to do with how predictable the plot was, at least to me. That being said, VOLVER is a well-acted, directed and produced film by a master director.

Unfortunately there are no live dinosaurs in this one, but there is a lot of weird shit going on that reminds one of the plentiful Vietnam war movies of the time period, as well as the exploitation of women and their gracious and fantastic and even sometimes slashed up mammary glands, and some type of jungle ritual involving a priest with a Triceratops skull with a green right hand, and of course let's not forget mini Rambo over here yelling "Son of a bitch" one-liners like a mentally challenged golden retriever. How he actually gets out of his bind is exactly how you end up it imagining it to be as you no doubt would be glazed over in the eyes having made it this far into this trash. It belongs up there in MST3K territory in badness. It's also got a fairly decent cult following for its obvious bad cheesiness. But overall, I found it to be a second rate cannibal wannabe badass movie that failed on all fronts and used every single cliche in the book while using barely a B-movie budget and it also includes a tasteless rape scene that while not entirely graphic (frontal nudity shown) it is not needed. The film is already a low end bottom feeder, but I expected more from it other than regurgitated third rate Rambo meets Cannibal Ferox meets fast cash eddie director Michael Tarantini or some crap...who cares. You'll either love it or detest nearly every minute of this weird silly piece of pure stupidity and exploitation.

Imtiaz Ali chooses to tell this tale in a different way but he narrates in surprisingly inconsistent tones. The beginning shot on the exotic French island of Corsica is unrealistic to say the least. The narrative deviates from its root course to potentially avoidable areas and in the end it's a heartbreak that puts our protagonist on track. Ranbir carries the film entirely and it is his acting prowess that lifts the misfired script. It is a shame that Deepika's character is simply sidelined. Rahman's music is good enough to listen and forget. Finally, Tamasha is a appreciable attempt to tell the story in a different way, but it deviates too frequently and too eccentrically to really make an impact.

(au) wrote: The obvious problem for critics and fans of the other Transporter films is that Statham was the perfect man for the job so when he gets replaced it was never going to end well, But Ed Skrein does an ok job I suppose even though he is half the size of statham and his acting looks very forced, The plot was good and some good exciting car chases and stunts but the action wasn't great and some OTT bits didn't help either, It's not a terrible movie but there was no need for this to made.
