Justin B (br) wrote: Though I normally don't watch political movies, this one is very entertaining. It's a well made "real" look into campaigning for presidency that is both funny and serious in the right parts. Travolta and Lester are on the mark carrying this film, but every actor is exceptional. Very worthwhile, though a bit long.

Bach P (ru) wrote: Truffaut spent much of his career trying to replicate a Hitchcock. Despite a stunning career that few will ever match in film, he never seemed to be reach the level of suspense that Hitchcock was able to, although he got closer to it then most. "Mississippi Mermaid" was another attempt by Truffaut to match his idol. Unfortunately, the film ends up being one of the very rare misfires of Truffaut's career. That's not to say that "Mississippi Mermaid" is a poor film, it is still more exciting then most of its peers thanks to the star-studded duo of Jean-Paul Belmondo and Catherine Deneuve. The film is almost cliche, an owner of a cigarette factory sends out an advertisement for a wife, and gets Julie Rommel - at least he thinks so. They marry immediately, but soon it is apparent that Julie is not the girl she claims to be. While the first half of the film is fast and loose, the second half feels like it is losing steam as the plot boils down. Unlike many of Truffaut's great films, this one rambles just a bit too much. While Godard was fascinated about centering his movies around serious discussions on life, Truffaut was always better off being on the light-hearted side of the conversation. While Truffaut had all the foundations of a Hitchcock here, he just didn't have the execution.

Tim S (ag) wrote: This has some great stuff in it, but it's too mediocre to give it really high marks. The POV stuff can be a bit on the boring and uninteresting side, which is why I think it failed a bit for me.

Ted M (kr) wrote: Passable revenge rampage movie with decent intial premise., BUT plot holes abound, characters are one dimensional, sound track is horrid, and Keanu is more wooden than ever. Also Humane Society signed off only on SOME scenes, so they killed the dog.
