Calum R (ag) wrote: Steven Spielberg, the master of war epics - including 'Saving Private Ryan', 'Schindler's List' and 'Empire of the Sun' - delves into the genre again, but this time focusing on World War I and the adapted tale of 'War Horse'. Whilst arguable that Spielberg tried a little too hard with the film's sentimentality, in my opinion it was used perfectly in conjunction with the plot, at just the right times, allowing even the toughest of moviegoers to become attached to Joey, the miracle horse. The film ventures into the lives of civilians, both British and French, and the frontline British and German soldiers, each time showing that despite the "allied" and "axis" labels, each side were compassionate for the animals that aided them throughout the war. Furthermore, despite the American influence on the film, it has a truly British feel to it, thus rendering its closeness to its source material. The cinematography is stunning and John Williams' score is beautiful, 'War Horse' is nothing short of a feel-good classic, if not a little too longwinded.

Ronald S (jp) wrote: A solid effort from local filmmakers the Zellner brothers. What it lacks in sound technical aspects and professional actors it makes up for in emotion, specifically from the main character Guy played by David Zellner. It's strange, but most of his choices seem to make sense to me, especially after hearing the filmmakers thoughts on what they were trying to achieve afterward.Overall, not the best film, but still an interesting effort from some local Austin talent.

David M (de) wrote: A must watch film showing how shallow most of the corporations are in the world. This is why the stock market should be regulated and futures need to be stopped. This is the sort of film that everyone should watch just to get a grasp on how to see it coming before it comes.

Erin B (es) wrote: Terrible script but still applies. Vincent D'Onofrio does an excellent job as usual.

Mandy V (ru) wrote: Based on the fact that the novella is such a different entity than the adaptation, I just can't bring myself to even appreciate this film. The potential was there with such extreme simplicity that I fail to understand the direction taken. Why change such a good thing? A real shame.
