Russell S (ca) wrote: An entertaining Arnie movie that never tries to be anything more than what it is. Pure, straight-forward sci-fi escapism that manages to do pretty well to look as good as it does given it's budget. Not amongst Arnies best but far from his worst.

Aidan H (nl) wrote: Dames Judy and Maggie head an all-star Brit cast in this sugar-coated slice of stiff upper lippery set during the Nazi occupation of Italy during the 2nd world war. As to be expected, neither Hitler nor Mussolini manage to ruffle the feathers of these octogenarian ex-pats and its a pretty drama- and action-free 2 hours (albeit handsomely photographed ones) until the Allies arrive to remind us there's a war going on between breaks for tea. Cher is no stranger to a bit of scenery chewing and she more than holds her own amongst the old bats, providing the glam as an ex-actress whose secret bequest prolongs their survival. Although stunning to look at, Zeffirelli's nostalgia lacks bite and the hotly-anticipated fireworks between Cher and Maggie is a damp squib. That said, it's a polished and handsome affair and not a bad way to spend an afternoon. Extra star to the costume department for some mouth-watering period clothing.
