Curruption, racketeering, arranged marriages and organised crime may seem a strange catalogue of subjects for what is essentially light entertainment, but Sturges ties them together in a wry, spry and very funny film that never feels judgemental of its subjects or patronising of its audience.

The level of preparation & work that went into the development of the story, the characters, the designs - coupled with a brilliant script, cast, effects & set-pieces shows up exactly what all the Marvel movies are sadly lacking. This films investigation of the origins of Batman is expertly crafted by one of the best directors around at the moment, & the action is far superior to that produced recently by both Spielberg & Bay.
