Brett H (mx) wrote: One of Del Toro's first projects, Mimic is a classic monster movie with some clever ideas, but shoddy execution with its incredibly dated CGI and lackluster acting. The story setup is quite promising with a scientist creating a new form of insect to eradicate all cockroaches in New York that are spreading a deadly disease that targets children, and then these new beings evolve past their purpose. However the truly bland lead actors, horrid visual effects, and familiarity of this type of film left it dead on arrival. I will give it props for having the balls to kill off kids which is something sorely lacking from monster movies today; it just adds realism! Del Toro himself has disowned the film due to studio interference, and while it's certainly not as bad as say, Alien3, it's not exactly a high-mark on Guillermo's filmography.

Is it awesome, no, but is it good, yeah, and that is enough, plus it is pretty funny in parts, cause mistreated vets are histarical, I guess.
