Thomas W (kr) wrote: Admittedly I am not the film's target audience so it might be a tad bit unfair for me to criticize Redwood Highway which stars two-time Oscar nominee Shirley Knight (Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood) in a worthy starring role of an older woman coming to terms with aging and her place in life while walking 80 miles of the Redwood Highway in southern Oregon to her granddaughter's wedding. Unhappy in a retirement community in she has been placed in by her son (James LeGros - Enemy of the State) and estranged from her family while disapproving of that upcoming wedding, Marie (Knight) takes off on a journey of a lifetime on foot and she meets random people along the way teaching her a thing or two about life she had yet learned about it or herself. The film felt too earnest in my book and the ONLY thing new here is the person taking the journey. We've seen and learned all of this before ... just with a different "teacher/student" on a journey. I am most likely too young for this and others will love it. It's okay but nothing I'd write home about.

The Jay Baruchal character puts it all down to chance and his bad luck; and the film plays out a theme of Chance throughout. Is it really possible that the UN endorsed the idea that there are 56 Virtues?
