The Trip

The Trip

Paul Groves, a television commercial director, is in the midst of a personality crisis. His wife Sally has left him and he seeks the help of his friend John, a self-styled guru who's an advocate of LSD. Paul asks John to be the guide on his first "trip". John takes Paul to a "freak-out" at his friend Max's pad. Splitting the scene, they score some acid from Max and return to John's split-level pad with an indoor pool. Paul experiences visions of sex, death, strobe lights, flowers, dancing girls, witches, hooded riders, a torture chamber, and a dwarf. He panics but John tells him to "go with it, man." Would you trust John?

Rene S (ru) wrote: To my friends who like the Dead, Dylan, CSNY, Beatles, etc or who have an interest in music therapy this film is a must. True story of a guy who got a brain tumor and could only recall memories when listening to the above bands. A tear jerker at times.

Leonard D (ru) wrote: It has been like 18 years since I've seen this movie! Looking back, I don't think that I'd like to watch it again because of the sexual references which our young protagonist gives. There is some heart, and a few funny moments, but nothing to shout home about.

MF J (de) wrote: A pleasant enough little film about the past glory of the studio 54 during it's glorious days. It's full of excesses, the cast is good, the story pretty straight forward & the whole feel like a giant disco party with tons of drugs & alcohol in the soundtrack.... wicked but fun!

Buddy K (es) wrote: A delight for anybody that enjoys comedies with staggeringly high body counts.

j t (de) wrote: There could never be a full film treatment of Proust's masterpiece, but this film treatment of one small part of it is brilliant. It is without a doubt one of the best films I have ever screened. Irons was brilliant as Charles Swann. I cannot imagine anyone else who could have played the part better. Muti was perfect as Odette, and Alain Delon was Charlus incarnate. If you love Proust, you really owe it to yourself to screen this film. The sets, costumes, and outside shots were brilliant, too. I think it is a classic film that is very underrated and deserves a lot more critical attention. Five BIG Stars!!!

Anders A (ru) wrote: Raw and ruthless. Clint Eastwood in his right element, dont giving a fuck about the bosses when they are doing it wrong. Capable, enjoyable and clean cutting. Pure as they come.
