Thomas D (it) wrote: In preparation for the upcoming Batman V Superman film, I've decided to revisit a few of each of the heroes' feature films, especially those where they come in direct conflict with one another.2016 is a big year for comic-book films. Batman and Superman are obviously squaring off very soon, but so is Captain America and Iron Man in Civil War. For all intents and purposes, 'Public Enemies' is DC's version of that comic book storyline. We begin as Lex Luthor takes over as president, using tactics similar to a presidential candidate running for office this year, which gives this film an interesting significance among films of this genre. The film is very much formulated like every other superhero movie, but I liked seeing parallels and a few valid points about society as a whole today. For the most part, it's just one punch after another, but for the avid superhero fan, that's enough.Batman and Superman are close friends here and for once, on the same side of the coin. After a framed murder from Lex on Supes, him and Batman become public enemies among the entire country. This even includes other members of the Justice League who were dumb enough to think Lex was a serious presidential candidate. Throughout the film you get appearances from famous villains like Solomon Grundy or Mongo and heroes like Hawkman and Shazam, all there to take in Batman and Superman. The film loses its political and moral focus a bit as it slips into an action extravaganza with all these heroes and villains, but eventually it gets back on track. The best part about the film is once again the dynamic between Batman and Superman. Conroy and Daly once again voice the two heroes as they take on a friendly bond this time around. Heck even Christopher Drake does the score. If you're a superhero fan, it's hard not to believe you would enjoy watching this film, but it's nowhere near the cerebral masterpiece that The Dark Knight Returns or some of the other animated films are. At the very least, the film is a smart commentary on corruption and misrepresentation in the media, which is something you barely see in a superhero flick.+Voice talent, enough said+Cool appearances from heroes and villains+Christopher Drake+Commentary on our society-Fight scenes take over the fascinating elements of the story sometimes8.2/10

gustavmarkovic31 (es) wrote: The tennis theme as the similarity between two young hopefuls is surprisingly romantic. unlikely, but romantic. However, there are more things to take into account here. Kirtsen Dunst doesn't do too well here, not sure whether she is supposed to play the friend or the villian, and Paul Bettany starts to become too ladidah by the end. Their are some spectacular camera views, such as when the camera tracks a tennis ball's set path across the court, which was beautiful to watch, and their is some chemistry between the leads, but it doesn't feel like enough. And I don't know what Sam Neill was doing in the role as Dunst's father, but he was still okay for a wasted character. and Paul Battany's character's parents were funny to watch hate then love eachother. A predictable romance which ends wince-inducingly, but was at the lvery least sort of satisfying.
Mac M (ca) wrote: amazing! the film is constructed in such a fluent way i found myself getting jealous i wasn't the editor.with no narration, Ratliff allows the members of Trinity Assembly of God Church to tell their own story. other than a wrestling sequence scored with a comical track, and two or three awkward editing pauses to highlight the absurd statements in a few interviews, the director spends zero time making fun of his subjects. it's the perfect way to tell this story.i could go on and on about how much i loved this movie but i won't. you should just see it for yourself.

Andrew H (nl) wrote: Definitely one of the better films in the series. The gore is top notch and the idea of Jason's soul jumping from body to body was a cool idea. Also maintains the humour that made Jason Lives so good.

Dan S (ca) wrote: An intriguing, unsettling look at a nave, sheltered housewife (Julianne Moore) who becomes very sick, only to have her doctors tell her they have no idea what is wrong with her. When she decides to move to join a group centered on wellness led by a charismatic leader (Peter Friedman), her health continues to plummet. What makes this thing watchable and interesting is director Todd Haynes take on environment and how sometimes where we live and who we surround ourselves with is the true poison to one's overall health. Moore's rock-solid performance anchors this movie throughout its entirety, and it still has a chilling effect on one after the credits roll.
