David P (de) wrote: Another sleep inducing movie about another couple who stop at another desert motel & find themselves in another version of Purgatory...or is it? It's like an art house wannabe version of The Reeker movies with out any action, graphic violence, horror or nudity from its lead actress. There are a couple of "homages" to The Shining which, unfortunately, only serve as a painful reminder that there are far better movies that you can be spending your time with unless you need a cure for insomnia.

Michael R (ag) wrote: Love isn't romantic fantasies but hard choices about how to live with one another. Soul mates are stuck to each other and can be conflicting, so you have to work to understand what is really important. People won't like this movie because the source is more truthful than romantic, and only tragic if you don't know that what has to be said and created in single moments is what matters.

Mloy X (ru) wrote: The Shiek Ahmed Ben Hassan (Valentino): "I am not accustomed having my orders disobeyed."Lady Diana Mayo (Agnes Ayres): "And I am not accustomed to obeying orders."To be honest I didn't think this film was going to be as engaging as its more modern counterparts because it lacked a certain cinematic sophistication but I think the lack of a spoken dialogue made me pay attention more to the actors' body language and made me concentrate more on their facial expressions; plus, the written dialogue was also very clever and witty, one can't help but completely become enamored with the film. Valentino was an interesting actor, I would love to see a behind-the-scenes of this film because his "technique" was just too inappropriately comical sometimes, although it didn't deter from his overall performance. Agnes Ayres was a wonderful heroine, even though her character tries to be a "modern" woman: adventurous and outspoken, she ends up being the stereotypical damsel who predictably develops Stockholm syndrome. But for me, the most memorable performance belonged to Adolphe Menjou (who plays Dr. Raoul de St. Hubert), he acted as how you would expect a classical stage actor would, more serious and less ham-ish like Valentino's performance. Overall, this more was surprisingly entertaining but an eye-opening experience for me because in the future I wouldn't be as quick to dismiss viewing a silent film.
Sgt C (es) wrote: (57%)Has a reputation regarding its poor production (so many mics on screen) which is understandable, but blaxploitation was never about perfect films it was about putting black people on the big screen for the first time ever (and getting some cash out of the mostly black audiences that flocked to these films in droves)and with that came some very unique and very entertaining movies. This part parody, part out-and-out action crime comedy is an essential watch for every blaxploitation film fan.
