The World According to Ion B.
The fascinating portrait of Ion Bârlàdeanu. The touching and inspiring story of a man who literally lived in the gutter for 20 years - and in the meantime managed to create paintings and collages which are now exhibited alongside works by Andy Warhol or Marcel Duchamp.

It is a beautiful film to watch and experience and almost unfair of the Academy to place films like it and this one side by side on lists expecting them to be fairly judged. Omar (Adam Bakri) is a teenage Palestinian baker who is in love with Nadja (Leem Lubany - Rock the Kasbah), little sister to his best friend Tarek (Eyad Hourani) by day; but at night he becomes a lethal freedom fighter doing what he can to further the independence of his Palestinian brethren. Even if they were not living in an occupied territory, the situation would not be ideal as Omar and Tarek's other childhood friend is also in love with Nadja. One night the three friends find themselves in a situation that unravels too quickly and an Israeli military officer is killed! They dispose of the body only to discover the MPs won't leave them alone ... as they instead hound and question each of the boys hoping to find a crack.

I kinda wish it was longer cuz I feel like I just got interested when it stop and I would've liked to see a bit more with character developments between the siblings but I dono, it's nice to kinda take a look at your everyday adventure not drowned by stunts or embellished by Hollywood.

The Claymation is classic, the voice acting from greats as Fred Astaire, Mickey Rooney, Keenan Wynn, and Paul Frees are stellar, and with a memorable villain name like Burgermeister Meisterburger, it's hard not to like this stop-motion holiday classic.

(au) wrote: One of the most fun, rewatchable, badass, and genuinely thrilling films of all time. Critics must've been high when this came out, and not on the good stuff.

(nl) wrote: Not bad. Kind of middle-of-the-road hallmark film. Still interesting to watch. Kay Panabaker is a fantastic lead though...I don't know if this is some kind of saga/book series or anything, but she was a great choice to play the protagonist. Anyway, this film isn't anything special, but still enjoyable to watch, and that's the point, isn't it?
(ca) wrote: This was just gross. Funny, but gross. Shock humour that I didn't expect from DeNiro at all. I felt like I was watching Jackass with good actors :(
