Matt M (it) wrote: Production-value wise, some better choices could have been made (I'm looking at you, cheesy music), but the least understood lawsuit in pop culture history proves an effective gateway to the frightening reality of tort reform, and the one freedom many of us already lost without even knowing it. Do you think you know all about that lady who spilled hot coffee on herself and sued McDonalds? You're probably wrong.

Maddie C (de) wrote: Norwegian Wood is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. I think you could mute it and still enjoy watching the amazing cinematography. Compared to Murakami 's novel, this adaptation is much darker and more understated, with not as much emphasis on character development. The movie can almost be viewed as a separate entity from the book entirely. If you go into this movie expecting the first person style rapport with the narrator, Watanabe, you will be disappointed. But this movie works in its own way, capturing feelings of grief, lust, and despair beautifully.

Adrian M (es) wrote: Eden Log is a bit of a puzzle, and I doubt it will find much of an audience. On the plus side, there is a fascinating, dark sci-fi look. In spite of the obviously tiny budget, it manages to be visually quite interesting. Clovis Corniliac make an intense and interesting screen presence, which is good, since he's almost constantly on the screen and has very little dialog. One the other hand, the plot is confusing and the progress is frustratingly slow. The explanations, such as they are, come late and don't really satisfy. The culmination was rather confusing and depended on CGI effects that were a bit jarring and completely outside the look of the rest of the film.

Andrea P (ru) wrote: A romcom that even the romcom averse can appreciate. Yes, the ending is predictable but the story is touching and memorable, the acting heartfelt and the characters loveable. You get so caught up in it all that you don't even care about the predictable ending, in fact, you desperately want it. A movie that stays with you and forces you to think about your own life choices and ponder the possibility of fate, the meaning of life and the importance of timing.

Al M (nl) wrote: An excellent and bizarre little film from Ozu that explores the infiltration of American culture into Japan while simultaneously exploring the differences between the world of children and the one of adults. Good Morning looks like a Japanese version of the Donna Reed Show or Leave it to Beaver. The similarities between 50s suburbia in the U.S. and Japan are indeed staggering. On one level, the film is about the increased introduction of conviency and entertainment techology into Japanese culture: TVs, washing machines, burglar alarms, etc. While the adults dismiss TV as something that will prodces a nation of idiots, the children view it as meaningful entertainment, entertainment that will provide meaning to htem in world filled with meaningless adult conversation: good morning, nice wather, etc. The children pull the mask off of the adult's language that is merely meant to fill space and serves no real purpose. Ozu's Good Morning is a delightful and hilariously subversive film filled with memorable type characters and bizarre (for an Ozu film) flatulence jokes. Unlike Ozu's other films, Good Morning is still a delightful look into the world of suburbia with its empty rituals and gossipy neighbors, all of which two small children subvert with vow of silence.
