A film abt how the 'little' Japanese women subtly protest against the patriachy. Gives an amiable and heartfelt glimpse of familism, struggle for free love and what filial piety can mean in Asian contexts.

(mx) wrote: This film deceptively starts out looking a bit like a B Grade thriller - the only star is apparently born middle aged Edward G Robinson. But before long Lang's masterful touch emerges and the film becomes elevated into a classic. There is something about the ending which suggest studio interference at script stage. Never the less a brilliant film.
