Frank P (gb) wrote: Comedy can be used to criticize war (M*A*S*H) bigotry (Archie Bunker) to puncture the rich elite (Cantinflas, Three Stooges) Doesn't work so well when you try to use comedy to smear the poor, the peacemakers, and portray the white Christian majority as the victims of persecution.

Creme F (it) wrote: This movie was terrible. Some awful acting performances, a terrible-disjointed plot, and absolutely zero suspense. There were probably a total of 2 semi-creepy images and that was it. How this is a Horror Fest film, I have no idea.

Thomas B (gb) wrote: It flattens me to think that Channing Tatum has managed to come so far after being in things like this. Full review later.

Shawn W (kr) wrote: A struggling water ski camp brings back a former instructor to beat the rich Twin Oaks camp to save it from closing. Not very good. Even a game of strip charades disappoints when it ends prematurely. Strictly for die hard Corey Feldman fans.

Private U (es) wrote: It's a really effective and interesting movie, on one hand offering a cat-and-mouse story, on the other hand showing the injustices Native Americans were faced with--even if those Native Americans are played by Robert Blake and Katharine Ross, of all people. Redford showed he could carry a movie before he was paired up with Paul Newman for "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", although his romance with Susan Clark doesn't really register with the rest of the film.

Adam R (nl) wrote: Would you believe that there was once a time when Eddie Murphy ruled the comedy world? Coming to America is proof of such a notion. With whip smart dialogue, colorful and likable characters, heartfelt and genuine performances from every actor involved (with Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall playing multiple roles throughout), and slick direction from John Landis, this is a true comedic classic with a ton of rewatchibility. If there's anything that prevents this from being a perfect movie, it's that the story itself is rather predictable and mundane, following certain beats that many viewers may see coming; the ending in particular is quite obvious. Thankfully, everything else works so well in the film's favor that it doesn't get in the way of its overall quality. There's not a whole lot else to say. It's hard to review a comedy without expressing your personal tastes and for me, it was very funny and worth the time. Check it out now and remember the golden age of Eddie Murphy.
