Jim A (ag) wrote: This fantastic tragedy movie about losing a loved one to cancer expertly balances its computer generated fantasy elements with its very personal and very real world drama. The child acting is some of the best I have ever seen and Liam Neeson gives the best vocal performance of his career. If you haven't watched this fantastic movie make sure to put it on your watch list

Jonathan B (it) wrote: A dour and bitter sweet family drama starring Geoffrey Rush, Charlotte Rampling and Judy Davis. Rampling plays Elizabeth Hunter, the wealthy matriarch of a fractured and dysfunctional Australian family. As she hovers close to death, her children return from lives lacking real success in Europe to circle like vultures and try to secure the inheritance they desperately need. Although weak and at times delirious, the dying woman is still able to stir up deeply felt emotions of hurt, betrayal, loyalty and jealousy in her offspring and the nursing staff who look after her. The mood is lightened by several genuinely funny incidents and you do feel drawn into the situations that have obviously riven this family for many years. However, whilst the cast is superb, the directing from Fred Schepisi is patchy and makes it hard to really sympathise adequately with any of the characters. It seems more observational rather than empathetic giving it all a rather distant feeling. For me, this movie was caught between black comedy and melodrama and doesn't really successfully manage to be fully one or the other. I did however really love the genuine evocation of the 1970s in which the film is set which gave the whole thing a very chic and sophisticated air.

Aaron M (ca) wrote: Shoot em Up is a over the top, balls to the wall, bullet fest. Its plot is utterly ridiculous, along with the script containing cheesy lines at every opportunity yet this doesn't distract from the movies obvious strength which is action. Action is plentiful, by the bucket load..its antics are completely silly but totally awesome. It almost resembles a video game in how unrealistic the action is but its dark, brutal and very stylised. Its a blatant 18 with drugs, bad language, nudity, and blood, a thoroughly satisfying watch.

Joseph R (ca) wrote: the funniest action comedy you've never heard of. it's weird, at times the tone of the movie is crazy serious, then sutherland shows up with his joker-style mad bomber antics and makes shit weird. a good movie.

Matt M (it) wrote: The sheriff of a small western town must fight off the attempts by bandits to free an outlaw from the small jailhouse as they wait for the state marshal's arrival. Hawks makes one of the most intense thrillers, filled with suspense and a great build up to the explosive finale you expect and doesn't disappoint. John Wayne is iconic as usual, but the surprise is Dean Martin, who plays the sheriff's helper, a recovering alcoholic.
