Wendy K (fr) wrote: This was alright. I really liked the guy and I would like to see what made him so unlikeable in the past year or so. Why do people call him a liar? But based on this film, the man is incredibly passionate and the film is educational. It's not terribly entertaining - which is why I took a couple stars off, because I do like documentaries entertaining or else I don't really have the patience for them - but the film and its captivating and charming protagonist keeps you hooked and makes you root for him. I hope he returns as the President of the Maldives one day. I like how he addressed climate change issues so immediately after his appointment.

Lisa K (fr) wrote: This is a powerful film that left me shell shocked for several days. I am left with a question. What gives a mother the right to cause such damage to her children and her spouse? Meryl Streep did an unbelievable job portraying a very mean, self centered, drug addicted, deeply damaged mother. As the plot unfolds like an onion, the viewer becomes privy to more and more of the family's secrets. Even though, the acting is tremendous, I didn't attach myself enough to any of the characters to care about the outcome. I didn't have any sympathy for Meryl Streep's character. Even though, she came from a very cruel upbringing, she wasn't able to rise above and not pass that damage on to the ones closest to her. Each one of her daughters suffer in predictable fashion from being raised by her, especially succumbing to attachment issues. All three daughters, were not able to form successful relationships in their own ways. The story is believable and most likely most people can see some of their own families' characteristics. I feel privileged to have seen this movie because of the flawless acting.

Sean K (br) wrote: SUCH AN UNDERRATED MOVIE!:Don't like Will Ferrel?? (Then don't watch it and expect to like it).If you have some basis of knowledge about the NBA and pre merger teams, it's actually quite original (while admittedly fictional). Aside from the meandering storyline, and a few outrageous scenes, this movie provides classic Will Ferrel humor. (Knowing that humor, you can expect some ridiculousness). Laughs abound, with a unique cast: Woody Harrelson, Andre 3000 (Outkast), David Koechner (Champ). Cameos: Kirsten Wiig, Jason Sudeikis, Ed Elms (The Hangover). Indeed, Semi Pro is entirely underrated and will go down as a classic comedy similar to Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison (Those movies have horrible tomato meter stats also). Maybe those who view these movies should stop looking for an academy award winning storyline, "that's unlike any other." Your unrelenting criticism of movies for being a clich (C), are a clich (C). Get over yourselves, stop taking things so seriously, and laugh. Life's a lot better that way. But more importantly: E.L.E. (Everybody Love Everybody!!!). And, embrace the "alley-oop."

Mattias E (us) wrote: From Jan Jakub Kolski, responsible for an almost Spielbergian adaptation of Gombrowicz Pornografia, comes this oddity about fragrant monks and lost love. Kolski uses the same faded colour palette as in Pornografia, with added explosions of pastel, to create a dreamlike atmosphere. The narrative, told from a child's perspective, reads like a fairytale and lends the movie a heavy symbolic air, but ends up being far too convoluted for it's own good. It might help being catholic, I guess.

Dan M (ca) wrote: I thought this movie has a lot of potential with the cast, but it wasn't all that funny. Some good lines, but overall kind of depressing.

Steven C (fr) wrote: Dark and a little over the top story, it is a good movie that holds up outside of the technology. Really typewriters in 1987? The second act with Billy hiding from the cops dragged the plot a little long for me. However, the plot wrapped up nicely in the end. Without Devito or Crystal, it would have been a forgotten 80s comedy as both are the real reason why this is any good.

blair k (it) wrote: to me what makes this movie is the performance from colin firth. i have enjoyed him for years even down to his clipped english accent. he just seems so real in every performance and i truly believed he was rupert everett buddy in the films. also great early performance from cary elwes. he is beyond handsome and just a beautiful young man. he seemed so sure of himself in the movie as well. i don't mean in a vain way but in his performance he gave . i remember seeing him in a movie called the crush and he had his teeth fixed by then and i thought that was disappointing because that added to his sweetness in another country but i guess that bothered him for years or something. some of the scenes are hard to watch with things that happen to rupert everett but the movie as a whole is woth checking out. very brave perfomance from rupert everett.
