(gb) wrote: i enjoyed this movie that not only gave a glimpse of Supreme Court Justices as people, but what happens when the boys club is shook up. my only complaints related to the unnecessary romantic tension they try to insert between the leads, and the absolutely gratuitous shot of Clayburgh in the shower.
(de) wrote: As a kid, this was my intro to Roy Scheider (prior to Jaws)...who is emminently watchable, regardless of various plot holes & pacing. But, as stated by previous Users of Good Taste - you've gotta wait for the Car Chase. The Best Ever, IMO, despite the more famous Bullitt references. Watch bad guy Richard Lynch blow Roy's hood off w/ shotgun - fun ensues. The camera work alone is worth your time.
(us) wrote: Routine John Wayne western is rather forgettable except that it's one of the few times that The Duke played a real life person, John Chisum, who was part of the infamous Lincoln County War, which is where Billy the Kid gained notoriety. Directed by journeyman director Andrew V. McLaglen, the action is competent if unspectacular. The only real reason to watch the film is for the handsome production values and a solid case that includes Wayne, Forrest Tucker, Christopher George, Ben Johnson, Richard Jaeckel, John Agar and Hand Worden.
(kr) wrote: This is the grand daddy of all American crime films. Anyone who loves the genre has to see this (as well as Cagney's "Public Enemy"). From this one, you can see the pedigree for anything from "The Godfather" to "Scarface" to "Goodfellas." It also contains one of the best and most famous closing lines of dialogue ever.

(nl) wrote: Wayne is giving a surprisingly excellent portrait of a fascist sergeant, preoccupied in reforming thoughts and supposedly liberal ideas.Impressive battle sequences and social morality yet if Patton was and is an overrated piece of militarism,I believe am really soft rating it with an extra half for the decent neutrality of Iwo Jima events, despite the usual historical patriotism.
(au) wrote: The movie synopsis is slightly wrong. Oldman doesn't 'summon his colleagues one freezing night'. They arrive of their own accord in the afternoon to give him an impromptu leaving party, as he has very suddenly and unexpectedly announced his departure. And some of the reviewers should stick to watching films about Marvel comics - the subtlety and depth of this film was obviously wasted on them. It's a great film with a great script and great acting.
