Paul W (br) wrote: Great passion, a spirited female copyist, and an unusual friendship yield the birth of Beethoven's Ninth, or so Holland would like you to think. However, Holland's Beethoven is hardly accurate. Superficial unruly passions, a historically nonexistent copyist, and a quasi-romance did NOT create the Ninth. Holland completely ignores the noble, philosophical, and political motivations that drove Beethoven and his music. Holland renders up a two-dimensional emotional crass composer, who needs Anna, the copyist, to save him and his music; without Anna, the Ninth would be far from the passionate beauty it is today, or worse, it would not exist at all. Yet even ignoring history, Holland's story is itself shallow with shallow characters. My biggest complaint is that we the audience lose most of Beethoven's true character as well as all the historical and philosophical significance of the Ninth because the director decided that an eccentric, bipolar, HALF-deaf, half-developed Beethoven was a better fit for her (boring) movie. Btw, kudos to Beethoven for actually being FULLY-deaf when he wrote the Ninth.

Derek J (gb) wrote: a harrowing sci-fi thriller with a veteran cast! the writing knows how to thrill, excite and even offer a few laughs. however, major plot points are predictable and with pot holes. otherwise, enjoyable film that stands the test of time!! (=

Matt B (gb) wrote: There's some quality Wesley Snipes fight scenes in this classic action flick. Unfortunately, it seems like it was heavily edited in post-production, which leaves it feeling disjointed. This is only made worse by the OTT 90s choreography..Despite all that, it's quite a fun film and had me giggling in places.

This truly was Peter O'Toole's greatest performance combined with a host of wonderful Hollywood stars and brilliant direction making this one of the greatest films of all time.Brian.m.Johnson.

Erik H (mx) wrote: Yon Tumarkin (Kevin) is such a terrible actor that it ruined this movie for me right off the bat. Not only that, but nothing remotely interesting happens in the first 50-60 minutes of the film, forcing me to watch this guy stumble through his lines like a jock in drama class. The POV camera is incredibly annoying and unoriginal. When the action finally starts, it is underwhelming to say the very least. I regret renting this on Vudu for 5 dollars. Now I'm pissed and I have to re-watch a good horror flick to get the bad taste out of my mouth.
