Ulysses' Gaze

Ulysses' Gaze

"A," a Greek filmmaker living in exile in the United States, returns to his native Ptolemas to attend a special screening of one of his extremely controversial films. But A's real interest lies elsewhere--the mythical reels of the very first film shot by the Manakia brothers, who, at the dawn of the age of cinema, tirelessly criss-crossed the Balkans and, without regard for national and ethnic strife, recorded the region's history and customs. Did these primitive, never-developed images really exist?

Eric H (br) wrote: "These Amazing Shadows" is a very inspiring film. You cannot watch it without feeling a strong sense of the importance of film preservation and film as an important part of our history.

Dan W (br) wrote: What a godawful mess

Augustine H (us) wrote: Amid Liv Tyler's beauty, the all-stared supporting cast is way more interesting than the boring pseudo-coming-of-age tale. Who the hell cares about Lucy's virginity?

Jacob B (br) wrote: Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo not only have great comedic chemistry, but also prove to us, that they can play drag queens. In fact, the acts and vocal ranges are so convincing, that I could barely see the three leads under the wigs and dresses.

Gary M (br) wrote: Greatest Scottish Movie of ALL time (bar none).

Steve T (nl) wrote: This movie is what makes me respect Jack Nicholson. A little sappy for my taste, it is more geared for complicated mother-daughter relationships. It gets ridiculously sad at the end.

Campbell P (au) wrote: I thought this would be a huge and really good horror film. It was huge but not as good as I thought it would be. First of all Chloe Grace Moretz is way too cute to be a social outcast but they did a pretty good job making her one. And the movie went by too quick in my opinion! I was hoping for like a half hour more of something! The bullying was plain cruel and whoever was like the bully in the movie in real life is really stupid and senseless and I doubt anyone would go that far in real life. It overall just wasn't my kind of horror flick. C-

Daniel D (ag) wrote: People Will Talk is a hysterical film, filled with wit and ingenious puns throughout. The screenplay by Mankiewicz ( who also directed the film) was filled with great dialogue. I wasn't only looking forward to what would happen next, but what would be said next. Dr. Praetorius is a new favorite character of mine, and as the epilogue suggests I wish he did exist, if he didn't of course. My favorite scene of the film was the train set. The miscommunication and childishness of it all brought loads of laughter. The informal trial scene was the second that stood out, and was a touching but still quirky scene. I loved this film, classy comedy and should get more recognition than it does.

Nolan M (nl) wrote: A very funny sports spoof movie.

Ammo C (fr) wrote: This money will take the 3rd slot in my favorite movie list. It is in fact a movie that I have True Romance for. The characters, to pimps, to gangsters, to hookers, to cocaine it is an amazing movie even if the premise is cliche.

Betsy W (es) wrote: It was just about exactly what I expected. Great, I mean epic, monologues, good acting, mediocre directing and a loose storyline that is difficult to follow. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wasn't specifically interested in the dialogue because that is definitely the focus. As it should be.
