(au) wrote: Far better than I thought it would be, largely sold as your typical monster on the loose flick, released around the same time as a dozen or so other similar films. Though unlike those this is set against the backdrop of a very real human genocide and if anything the giant croc on the loose is the sub-plot, okay so the subtext is a little heavy handed 'man is the real monster' etc... but the film plays its scares just right and manages to keep its CGI croc limited for as much screen time as possible.

(mx) wrote: Set in an alternate universe (the fourties with zeppelins and medieval echoes), this movie's about the struggle for peace between vampires (The Brothers) and humans. High concept, small budget. Interesting film with a tremendous look.

(au) wrote: Adapted from the brilliant fantasy stories of Robert E. Howard, Conan the Barbarian remains one of the greatest examples of the fantasy genre. Conan opens with a classic quote from Nietzsche: "That which does kill us makes us makes us stronger." From there, the film becomes a truly Nietzschean tale about defining the self against all odds. Filmed in a way that can only be described as epically sublime, Conan the Barbarian features not only one of Arnold's greatest performances but awesome supporting roles from the likes of James Earl Jones and Max von Sydow. Blending brutal action together with moments of dark magic and slapstick comedy, Conan the Barbarian is an almost perfect fantasy-action film that explores the individual's ability to rise up from the ashes and conquer the gods themselves.

If you want a classic, light-hearted Arnold movie (think along the lines of True Lies) and enjoy parody of action movie tropes, 'Last Action Hero' is worth a watch. Also good for those who have nostalgia for the 80s - 90s action movie period.Probably not as entertaining for anyone else, though.
