(br) wrote: Argh! Helen Hunt's winning, melancholy smile duped me into believing that this film wasn't going to be the lazy, masturbatory fantasy of some writer who writes a film in which the star of the show is, um, a writer. (Solitary Spoiler alert.) Movie ends with a poem. A fucking poem. Fuck.
(fr) wrote: This movie was awful and the plot not remotely believable. Billy and James are 20 years apart and there's nothing in the film that suggests any real similarities. How many 40 year old men wouldn't find the 19 year old billy cute? But would those older guys be so foolish as to confuse that physical attraction with something real? Furthermore, the kindnesses of strangers theme strains all credulity. Oh well. A C-movie not even worthy of watching on video, a complete waste of time.

(kr) wrote: "Why another WWll film? Hasn't it all been done, all been said? What's the point?" And so I wondered while watching until, despite the less-than-experienced and sometime cliched delivery from some B-list outfit, a story emerges that asks some interesting questions. Although it never leaves the enormous footprints of those that have gone before, like the voice of a child ("what did lil Mikey just say?") it does come around to make some worthwhile points. The cast, the script, the tech, never overblown, does well in maintaining our interest until that happens. Two thumbs up.

(es) wrote: A documentary that lets you spend an hour and a half with the most mentally twisted and skewed people around. A bunch of folks with tattered pasts littered with bad decisions hook onto the hope of a false and illogical claim of salvation and turn around to condemn everyone around them, elevating themselves to an internal state of 'contentment' by proclaiming their superiority over everyone else. When I look at these people I see miserable folks who are both dumb and hopeless. They are too pathetic and sad to go through life on their owns, so they hook onto this Jesus character to get them through it. Then, despite all this, they turn around and create a sick and lewd haunted house designed to scare nonbelievers into believing in Christ. They condemn everyone and everything except themselves, because they have no self-esteem otherwise. Look at these people. Its terrifying and pitiful watching them. What's the real kicker? The amount of irony in their 'hell house' and the fact that all of their scenes actually contradict their own preaching. Its sadistic how they put these characters into horrible scenarios (one character who was raped and abused by her father as a young girl) and then doom them to eternity for not accepting the invisible man in the sky as their lord and savior. They stare the problem right in the face and proceed to contradict and ignore it. This is why religion sucks.
(es) wrote: For fans of Cradle of Filth! I love the music video's that this death metal band pull off (Cradle of Filth). I also thought if Dani Fith released a film it would be one of the best horror films ever. Up there will the Night of the living Dead and Zombie flesh eaters. Sadly its way off the mark! He tries to shock watchers with lots of blood and and strange pedo scences. But at the end off the day its full of bad acting by young english goth girls. It was worth watching but maybe only the once. I would advise any one who is thinking of buying this to watch feardotcom first still not a great film but better than this. Dani filth dont give up your day job.

(mx) wrote: A strange movie, as any Greenaway is.As I was watching, I was constantly swinging from "I like this movie a lot" and "What the heck is this?"But of course, in Greenaway the plot is of minor importance, compared to the visual - and aural - experience he wants to deliver to the spectator. Not an easy viewing, by the way, the multiple split screens and the insert in the main scene of secondary ones demand for a total attention. Or for a total release of attention, in favor of a just emotional approach. At the end, I knew I like this movie. And, yes, there is a plot, actually. And not a trivial one.

(fr) wrote: Three Colors: White is about equality and the paradox of love and freedom. It's a portrayal of Kieslowski's own paradoxical situation. But it's also a very fine, comical description of the new capitalist Poland. Kieslowski didn't fall in front of the communist Poland and neither in front of the new Poland. Even that White isn't probably as beautiful as Blue and not as serious as Red it's a very talented ironic comedy, a tragicomedy actually. I found many touching scenes in it, and it works very well even just as a story. The screenplay by Krzysztof Piesiewicz and Kieslowski was very good, reinforced by the masterful score by Zbigniew Preisner. A masterful piece of cinema art.
(nl) wrote: C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors. His story is quite interesting, especially this part--falling in love late in life. Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger are brilliant in their roles.
(kr) wrote: The Purple Plain is a dramatic film. It is about a bomber pilot who crashes in Burma. Gregory Peck and Bernard Lee give excellent performances. The screenplay is well written with plenty of adventure. Robert Parrish did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama. The Purple Plain is a must see.
(jp) wrote: Very good John Ford Western without John Wayne, pretty simple plot about some Mormons traveling to a new colony while dealing with some asshole outlaws and Navajo Indians. As usual with Ford, the movie looks great too.
