Underworld Beauty

The moment he's released from prison, the honorable gangster Miyamoto recovers the stolen diamonds he had stashed before getting pinched. When he returns to his haunt to make good by friend who took a bullet for him, he is diverted by the greedy boss Oyane and his insatiable taste for Miyamoto's precious stones. Replete with film noir style, "Underworld Beauty" is one of Suzuki's best nods to the American gangster genre.

Josh R (fr) wrote: It's simple, it's unique, it's enjoyable but in no way is this movie memorable. It also would only appeal to a very limited audience: fans of mediocre foreign dramas. The characters are very real which adds an aspect of emotional attachment, if we could just figure out what to attach it to. The film follows two girls searching for a lost little one while bonding in the process and also, a newly wed couple (with a jealous wife who just broke her leg) dealing with a writer in their hotel. It's spastic at times but does deal with these people's urge to achieve communication and affection proficiently. Replay Value: 2.5

Matt M (es) wrote: More geared towards the cheap laughs but almost equally as entertaining.

Agustn S (mx) wrote: Touching, emotional and an undeniable thrill to experience; The Return of the King showcases some of cinemas most exciting and thrilling action sequences ever, while also giving it's characters and story enough moments to feel important and resonant. Well-directed, a little exhausting but undeniably rewarding, Peter Jackson's finale to the Lord of the Rings trilogy is as impressive as it is epic.

First L (au) wrote: Maybe you get the message part way through, but the ride is so gorgeous, so well-told, that it's a delight to just see the rest of the movie follow-through on the theme.

Aditya R (mx) wrote: Not quite like Amadeus, but a brilliant film nonetheless.

Jeff M (ru) wrote: Not gonna lie, it scarred the crap out of me. I was 12 when it came out.

The Critic (ag) wrote: Quite easily one of the funniest flicks to come out of the '80s, this beer and pizza crowd pleaser is notable for featuring the siblings of stars Bill Murray, Meg Tilly, and Michelle Pfeiffer, as well as marking Don Cheadle's debut. Sure there's plot holes, but there's so much fun to be had as underachiever Dana Cannon (John Murray) falls in love with spaced-out rocket scientist Amy Hopkins (the lovely Jennifer Tilly), and leads likeable single dad Spencer (Ben Mittleman), hypercondriac Joan (scene-stealing Wendie Jo Sperber), horror buff Wink (Ned Eisenberg), loveable Loretta Houk (Nedra Volz), et. al. against corrupt authority figures Deputy Halik (James Keach) and Judge Henderson (Sally Kellerman) as the scorned stone-faced Deputy Morris (Lisa Hart Carroll) tries to keep her cool. Lots of laugh-out-loud moments and quotable lines ("Sit down before I mould your face into an ashtray" is a personal favourite) make this a notch above most guilty pleasures.

Kimmer S (au) wrote: Starring George Hamilton as a sexy, campy, silly Dracula.

Private U (jp) wrote: Gritty, violent underrated thriller.

Peter F (br) wrote: Scorsese's messy yet handsome period piece is a bit of a flawed masterpiece. The production values in recreating 19th century New York are nothing short of outstanding, and it may stand as the director's most ambitious project. Unfortunately, the story's pacing issues, and one poor choice in casting (Cameron Diaz) keep it from completely living up to it's aspirations.
