It's another great European family drama/thriller with the fantastic Liv Ullmann (from most of Ingmar Bergman movies). and a story that will haunt you for a long time and that redefine the meaning of a "lie".

Brett H (br) wrote: An excellent horror premise with the requisite R-rated violence that just misses the mark due to poor execution of the 30 days timeline and bland characters. The setup for the terror is perfect and the idea that vampires would take advantage of a town with a 30-day blackout is chilling to the bone. These are some of the nastiest vampires ever put to screen who don't even have the decency to wash the blood off of their faces and they totally steal the show! Unfortunately once the action gets underway, the survival plot doesn't unfold all that well and you can barely tell when time has jumped, how they fed themselves, and how the vampires weren't able to find them by dumb luck. The acting is just average from the likes of Josh Hartnett and Melissa George, but the vampires bring a level of menace and Danny Huston was effective as the leader. This could've been really great with another draft of the script, but it's still a nasty, gruesome horror film that succeeds on it's premise alone; and I do mean gruesome!

Nolan M (br) wrote: A great movie with an even greater soundtrack. Cameron Crowe's movie has many sweet moments and some very good acting, with a few laughs to spare. This film is very inspiring and eye-opening to its viewer.

And that's just fine. He'll take the bow off your lovely box of bullshit and dig down right to the bottom. If there was a bottom. There isn't a bottom. If you were looking for truth, that's it.I've long held that most movie critics are moral grandstanders, picking and choosing, elevating and diminishing for their own curatorial interests, the bad reviews of this film supports that. This is an honest, thoughtful, considerate and provocative piece of art that should leave you feeling wonderfully uncomfortable. Yes, you heard me, discomfort can be wonderful.Life is uncomfortable. Get comfortable with it.Shit's complicated.

Daniel S (it) wrote: I should not have enjoyed this so much. It's hilarious, stupid funny, but Reese Witherspoon turns what should be forgettable nothingness into a surprisingly good film by deftly walking the line between socialite airhead and an intelligent mind held back by her blonde hair and good looks. But uh... she certainly has a lot of those.

Kristal C (kr) wrote: Strange as it may seem, this movie has grown on me since I first saw it in the theatre a decade ago (seriously, it's been THAT long?!). As usual, Paul Rudd steals the show ("we are people of the world and together like like different kinds of food!") and my old childhood favourite, Martha Plimpton, accurately depicts the fears of every party-thrower throughout the history of the world. It's also weird to remember that for a brief time in the late '90s, Courtney Love wasn't a ranting tweaker.

Todd S (kr) wrote: This is another movie from Eric Stanze and his Sub Rosa production company. I have to hand it to the guy; he keeps throwing them out there, that?s for sure. There is no nudity in this movie and I only mention it because that is REALLY rare for a Stanze movie. The plot is pretty simple, but for a 70 minute movie that?s all you should expect from a plot. The story puts a group of young people going to an out of the way place (in this film it?s a closed summer camp) where they one by one succumb to demon possession. Sound familiar? A little too Evil Dead for you? The make up and gore effects are pretty average and one of the demon possessed kids has a habit of eating corpses giving the film a slight zombie film vibe too. The acting is ridiculous and not even bad enough to be funny, it?s just bad. The soundtrack is nothing more than some noise in the background. If I were you, I wouldn?t waist a dime on this short, boring, backyard production.
