Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam

Set in a village in Tamil Nadu called Silukkuvarpatti, VVS talks about the love between Bose Pandi (Sivakarthikeyan) and Latha Pandi (Sri Divya). While Bose is a carefree but spirited young man who doubles up as the leader of a local ‘Sangam’, Latha is the daughter of the village’s head honcho, Sivanandi. Sivanandi and Bose don’t exactly see eye to eye and added to this, Sivanandi is dead against his three daughters falling in love as he sees it as an insult to his status and standing in the village. A superhit hilarious comedy entertainer.

Clinton P (it) wrote: Surprising that someone remade a movie that was so awful in the first place. It slightly beats the horrid Stallone version.

Jamie I (es) wrote: Based on the Chuck Pal novel by the same name, for once a movie hits the nail on the head. A faithful adaptation of the book, Choke follows Victor a sex addict who goes to fancy restaurants and chokes to pay for his mother's hospital bills. Those who save him feel the need to take care of him and send him money. There is a minor change to the ending. It doesn't affect anything and it sort of happens in the book just not exactly how. My favorite scene of the movie because it's just like I envisioned it in the book is the "poodle" scene. So, I guess sometimes Hollywood does read the books it makes into movies. Thank you, Hollywood, for not ruining my favorite Chuck Pal book. Excellent adaptation, highly recommended. I'm only sad this wasn't highly publicized. I'll do it for them as best I can here.

Aaron V (nl) wrote: Christmas with the cranks is crap. One of the worst Christmas comedies. No I take that back, This is one of the worst comedies i've ever seen. This film to sum it up is an awkward comedy with lazy jokes and awful writing. Do yourself a favor and watch Home Alone. You'll have more fun with that movie than this.

Ryan V (gb) wrote: A penitent gangster (Tetsuya Watari) is looking to retire from the yakuza lifestyle, but the machinations of his friends, rivals, and enemies are making that very difficult. Like many of Seijun Suzuki's films, Tokyo Drifter finds the director taking a boilerplate story and running it through a filter of idiosyncrazy. There's a number of (really fake-looking) shoot-em-ups and fistfights, but the highlights of this film can be found in its interesting sets, odd expressions of color, cheeseball use of gallows humor, and singular camera angles. Tokyo Drifter isn't much of a gangster movie, but it's an interesting showcase for a B-movie director who is sick of regurgitating genre cliches.

David B (au) wrote: Bright musical adaptation of the stage show chronicling the rise of the world's first female superstar, wild west sure-shot Annie Oakely.Betty Hutton plays Oakley after replacing first-choice Judy Garland whose understated quality is sorely missed here. Hutton is OTT in her portrayal of the talented protagonist; any sense of the real Oakley's inner strength and independence is all but lost in her wide-eyed, one-dimensional performance. The film won the Oscar for music and features several fine songs - including the ever-popular 'Anything You Can Do' and Berlin's towering 'No Business Like Show Business' - which Hutton delivers with aplomb but it's the time between singing which disappoints.
